That said, he looks like a very good get. He looks like he has bulked up quite a bit with his year at Hargrave and should be instantly ready to play at UC (won't need to add weight/muscle first). It seems like the 6'7" listing is accurate, though I guess we will see when he arrives. Seems similar to the Hardnett/Prince mold (with a bit less athleticism) of a guy who can bang inside or handle the ball and step out and shoot the three. Here's a nice tidbit from a scouting report on him.

The 6’7″ hybrid forward reminds me a little bit of a guy like Grant Williams over at Tennessee, the reigning SEC Player of the Year as just a sophomore. I’m not saying Davenport will do that, but he’s a guy who’s, traditionally, a little short to play the power forward position, but he’s explosive and strong and can shoot the three ball, making him a versatile guy that can play all over the court and create mismatches.

Can you do me (and I think all of us) a favor, and quit pissing in the punchbowl?

OK?

Thanks.

LOL, the constant negativity is really annoying, huh?

04-rock As I said, I'm good with adding him and hopefull that he could turn out to be a real find. But seriously if this was a Mick commit, his haters would have the sarcastic posts flowing like a production line.

Because comparing the recruiting of a newly-hired mid major coach against that of a 13 year veteran with a Huggins-Pitino pedigree and multiple NCAA appearances is apples to apples.

Actually, IMO, yes it is. Both are recruiting to UC. If it were about the coach and past NCAA tourney runs, then we would haven't multiple McDAA or ESPN top 100 players every year because only 6 or so other schools have done what UC has at the tourney. Kids are looking for exposure, playing time, competition. Not pedigree, not history. The kids being recruited now don't remember college hoops from 2012, let alone 1992.

Or put another way, if you took any of the top 10 teams coaches and put them at MU, or Wright State or even Tulane or Boise State, they still would not be perineal Top 15 or 20 clubs.

So yes, Coach Brannen gets something of a break this year in recruiting because of his late start, but UC fans, admin and athletics budget expect he and his staff to recruit at or above the 23 year veteran with a Huggins-Pitino pedigree pretty dang quick. Welcome to big time collegiate hoops. And I for one, think the Moeller kid is as huge get for a number of reasons... on and off the court. That's a different topic tho

And I'm firmly in Coach Brannen's camp and hope for huge success from his teams.

if mick took someone like this this late, then yes. i'm getting tired of saying it, but we've got a lot of roster spots to fill

I haven't read one thing about this kid that would lead me to believe that he's not going to be a contributor. Whether that is as a feature player, supporting-cast starter, or provider of quality minutes off the bench remains to be seen, but there's no excuse for negativity.

Yep

I liked the commitment from Davenport. I don't know guys but each topic on here
seems to bring out the hate in each other like a game thread has been the past few years. The same ones mad at Brannen are the same ones declaring UC is going to lose in every game if we aren't leading in the first minute. Come on, let everyone give their opinion instead of being mad at each other if they differ. Sit back and take a deep breath and drink a nice hot black coffee.

RE: Local Moeller Alum Jeremiah Davenport Commits
My brother is a high school coach. He said that Davenport was a college-ready player last year. He had committed to Wright State at one point. He was surprised that Davenport took a year of prep school work before D1 because most players do that to get more seasoning to become college-ready.

Also, he said that Davenport is 6'4". I looked it up, and the Enquirer said, "Davenport was a 6-5 guard/forward at Moeller but was listed at 6-7 by Hargrave, so whether he's grown remains to be seen until he's officially measured at UC. "

he needed to work on his grades. he knew athletically he could do much better than wright state, and now he has.

i'm VERY excited for this because the kid can play. he was possibly the best player in the state his senior year. more than makes up for the samari curtis de-commitment IMO. also known to be a leader on and off the court (just not the classroom lol) and a true team player. by all accounts i've heard from both uc and moeller contacts, this is a great kid to bring into the lockeroom, and a MUCH bigger pickup than most people seem to realize. im personally hoping this opens a GCL pipeline because it seems like every year theres at least one major recruit from that league and we need to start getting our share of them to clifton heights.

Not just the GCL, but also the GMC and similar HS conferences in Dayton, Cols, Indy, Lex & Louisville.

i agree completely. i just wasn't sure how much one high school league affects another as far as starting a recruiting pipeline, but if we can open it all the way up and be a top option for all local talent that would be huge for the program

Looking forward to seeing Davenport as a local Bearcat. Makes up for Samari IMO.

Also a year older and more experienced. May contribute more right away than Samari would have.
