I think it's ok to be annoyed at people who didn't appreciate what Cronin did for this program. I think it's weird for anyone to be so fiercely defending a guy that they go after our current AD who's seemingly only crime was not stroking Cronin's absolutely massive ego after one of the worst NCAA tournament losses in history. Because that's what happened.

Everyone seems to have 'sources' and are beating around it. I'm just going to put it out there. Cronin wanted a solid raise and extension on his deal after the Nevada loss. Bohn offered one that had significant performance based incentives (most of Cronin's raise would have come by advancing in March). Cronin was extremely surprised and insulted by that offer. He was done with UC and gone from that moment, especially since Bohn and him already had a history. If it wasn't UCLA, it would have been Arkansas, Virginia Tech, (etc) heck now even Michigan. Cronin was not going to be the coach of the UC program in 2019-2020. He put almost zero effort into scouting the 2020 class and it showed in our target list.

I personally don't see what Bohn did wrong. If Cronin had made a run in that tourney with that team, Bohn, with the support of the major donors, would have given Mick the massive contract (by UC standards) that he wanted. To ask for it after the disaster in Nashville was so tone deaf, I can't believe Cronin actually did it.

So I ask again, why in the world do we have some people in our fanbase who are so loyal to a guy that didn't have much for them in the end? Unless you are getting your facts from Dan Cronin, I just don't see it.

Based on what sources? Everything I've seen is the length of the extension and not the raise was the sticking point.

Also, the bolded is complete B.S. We had two scholarships and coaches generally save one for spring transfers. With the other we got a local top 150 recruit, I'm sure he as at or near the top of the targets list and most on here were very happy to have him (until he asked out of his LOI and they decided he sucks). How big of a target list do you expect when you get a top target and are saving the other scholarship?

The story is based on my conversation I had in Memphis with another UC donor that had a good relationship with Mick. We got on the subject of Cronin and Bohn's relationship and discussed various things (we did not talk about the alleged incident after the St Joe's tourney game, which I still don't know what happened there). When I saw the DeCourcey article a few weeks later I thought it lended more credence to our convo. I don't know it to be 100% true, I was just tired of people implying things but not actually elaborating, so I decided to actually elaborate for once.

The second part is my opinion only, and I'm talking about the 2020 class, not the 2019 class which is what you are describing. For 2020 we went after Symir Torrence half heartedly and that was pretty much it. He committed to Marquette despite us being on him early. We had a few offers go out but Cronin had developed very little relationship with many of the other guys he offered such as CJ Wilcher. I personally feel he stopped scouting with the effort that allowed him to get on guys early and develop a relationship. It is my view that we were headed towards a disaster of a 2020 class that would have set us back a few years. All of this with a brand new arena to sell along with an increased level of competition.

I liked Mick. I was happy to keep him if he was willing to tweak the small things that would allow us to go the next step. I have seen and heard nothing that ever gave me confidence he was going to do so. So I'm not sad he moved on, but I'm happy and appreciative for what he was able to do here.

Well said, I personally feel the majority of Bearcat fans hold a similar sentiment. This board has recently just been the two ends of the spectrum. "The sky is falling crowd" or "The everything is perfect crowd"

Our top target that originally committed to Chris Mack and fell to Mick after Mack took the UL job? I haven't seen him rated top 150 either. Top 200 maybe. Would have been nice to have kept him but I don't think he would have played much next year even had Mick stayed.
The recruiting wasn't that great recently. Keith Williams was the last recruit to generate much excitement.

here is his rank history from 247

I was excited to see him play as a Bearcat, but wish nothing but good luck for him and I hope his family issues work out.

Cuse fan here:. Here is an article on your replacement. Kid played in Syracuse and at a NH prep school and was a member of the Albany AAU team

Former Ludden star Mika Adams-Woods chooses college

Be nice to hook up with you guys for a home and home hoops game in a year or two.

Thanks we have had some good games in the past. You are lucky to have a coach who turns out a son who is a great shooter; all the recent Bearcat coaches come in with daughters.

So we just basically traded Curtis to Nebraska for this guy.

Daughters can be good shooters too. Believe me - my wife's dad is a retired cop.

Chad Brendal was on Mo's show last evening and basically said Mika Adams-Woods is a better fit for CJB's system and that Curtis is more of a Cronin system player. Adams-Woods was lower rates but shot a better percentage from outside the arc. Couldn't tell you who the better player is or who will make the bigger college impact.

Been a Bearcat fan now for 25 years year when I first went to UC law school.
I would agonize for a decade over lost recruits. This was especially true when a kid averaged double digits in high school or had some otherwise outrageous stat. I’ve learned over time that you usually don’t know what you’re getting until you see how high schoolers adapt to the college game.
I wish Curtis luck.
Glad we have a higher percentage shooter. Let’s try a new approach and go for shooters I say.

Go Cats!

Awkward... I'm not sure what she expected. Once you put your name in the transfer portal, you are no longer on scholarship. Hell, technically the scholarships are year to year anyways.

His brother has made over 12 million in his NBA career and makes 19 million on his contract next season. A little strange that they are relying on Logan to help be a caretaker. Are they expecting him to live at home while juggling the responsibilities of a college athlete?

With the portal being new, even if the rules are clear, there will be some confusion around how it works. Sounds like once you put your name in coaches assume you're not coming back and are focused elsewhere (especially in the shortened timeline Brannen had). Logan will have a nice career somewhere.

RE: LoJo in the transfer portal
Technically scholarships are year to year so even if Logan hadn't entered the portal there was no obligation to offer a scholarship next year. Judging by her comments Logan's decision was made although he hadn't chosen an official destination yet. That said we would have owed letting them know that with him in the portal we would need to look for other options. I trust the staff would do that; I give them the benefit of the doubt that this is at worse a miscommunication.
