That’s a steal for UTSA, recruitment money being able to play 3 other easier games because you’re making 2 million basically for just one game. Travel expenses are basically none, on tv every weekend, chance for upset, a lotta Texas paying attention. Very good series fir UTSA

Just imagine if we get a Texas am or tcu or another big series during the same timeframe. The money would be unreal. Then just play 2 fcs games and you come out of non conf 2-2 basically every year and make 4 million each year with tons of exposure and little to no travel cost

Aside from the big paychecks, I think this is a perfect example of the bad scheduling policies most programs in C-USA follow.
UTSA should have been negotiating with A&M. Texas A&M would probably considered playing a game or two in San Antonio, just to take the stage in a stronghold of Longhorn country, and rub it in Texas' face.
Playing all five games in Austin only furthers the average fan's perception that Texas plays in a higher division of football, and G5 programs like UTSA are in a lower division. This series reflects poorly on UTSA and by association C-USA. Our conference needs more home and home series with respected programs, not more bodybag games.
The AAC is clearly the best G5 conference, and it starts with their OOC scheduling. They don't take crap deals like this. That is why they actually have a media deal that pays them money.

UT tried to give us a deal like this and we told them shove it. This is some FCS level bullcrap.

It’s not like UT is 4 hour plane trip. I think everyone at UTSA is going to be okay with this. Let’s see who else we schedule. We’ve been coming out of non con 1-3 for a long time. If we are making a few million and coming out 2-2 or 3-1 that’s what’s going to be the big question

Congrats UTSA, on finagling a 5 game series with the Big Kahuna in Texas. If memory serves we have been playing FBS for about 20 years and I think we've been invited to play our own UT two times (maybe 3?) And, we have no future games scheduled with the Land Grant #%^&*@ monsters in our state. Let me guess how you accomplished this feat. Do you have an AD and or President with a pulse and a little bit of negotiating skill? Does your state legislature recognize UTSA to be a legitimate FBS university? Do the people of your home city go out of their way to support your efforts? I'm betting you've got us on all three counts.

Side Show, UTSA's program is too green to make any demands. They need to get their brand name some exposure. Several of our newbies need to do the same. Beating Texas would raise eyebrows nationwide.

We are playing A&M for the second time this season, at Kyle Field. Ags coming to the dome is a non starter for the same reason as Texas. The dome is just over half the size of their stadiums and we’d be outnumbered in our own house.

Any C-USA team beating Texas would raise eyebrows nationwide. As for everything else regarding the Runners, I disagree.
UTSA had the benefit of being the shinny new toy in the only major city in Texas without a pro football team or FBS team. They had an advantage on every new FBS program. Having no perception was an opportunity for UTSA to establish their brand in a positive light. UTSA appears to be squandering this unique opportunity, either by poor leadership or lack of money or some other factor I have not identified. They are now struggling on the field and seem to be falling behind in facilities, and recruiting. Now, just after Tulsa announces an 8 game home and home series with Oklahoma State, UTSA announces they are willing to take it in the shorts for fives straight game in Austin. I don't celebrate body-bag games. Certainly not a series of 5. I've said it before, C-USA programs have to schedule better and kick their addition on body-bag games, or we will remain a 2nd rate G5 conference.

Then don't schedule either program.
TCU won't come to Denton, so we don't play them. There are plenty of other quality programs that will. The Alamodome holds around 64,000 people. Go sign a home and home or a two for one with Notre Dame, Michigan, USC, or LSU and make some real noise. That will get the attention of Texas and Texas A&M.

I don't think these programs schedule home and home with any G5. But I agree UTSA should have gotten a home game out of this deal. A home game with Texas helps future television contract negotiations.

Come on, man. We've had football exactly 8 years now. UNT has had football for 106 years, and you have yet to play the Longhorns at home. Since UTSA started our football program in 2011, we've hosted Oklahoma State, Arizona, Kansas State, Arizona State, and Baylor. UNT has hosted one P5 (Indiana) in that same time span. So spare us your lecture about how wrong it was for us to take this deal.

RE: UTSA, Texas announce five-game series beginning in 2022
No kidding! Like UTSA can get a 2 for 1 with Notre Dame! Oh my! That's delusional.
In your first 8 years, you have hosted some notable opponents, and been able to beat Baylor, which was a good first step. You'll take more. The Alamodome gives you the capability to attract P5 opponents. You can also afford a larger guarantee because of the associated, increased ticket sales.
By playing Texas, UTSA will sign the recruit that Texas spurned and has a chip on his shoulder about it. We had a 10-year contract with Bama. As fans we hated it. We won only one of those 10 games (on the field), but we won C-USA 4 times during that span. Playing a true "measuring stick" hardened us before conference play. Hindsight being 20/20, and with falling attendance nationwide, I'd welcome another of those contracts (but maybe LSU or Florida instead).

If North Texas signed that deal with any P5 program, I'd be furious, and our AD would be hearing from me. The fact that UTSA has had success bringing in respected P5, makes this series even worse. There is just no reason to sell out to Texas.
Yes, UNT hasn't brought in P5 programs over that eight year period. That is because our athletic department was under bad leadership when those games were scheduled. That AD whored our team out for body-bag games, and we are still having to play out those terrible contracts until 2021.
The good news is we now have competent leadership and have not scheduled any body-bag games to our future schedule. Our current AD has already signed 3 P5 teams to play at Apogee within the next 10 seasons.

Yep, no one wants to play us. Just about everybody that left C-USA had a losing record versus us. (Cincy evened up the series record. Must give credit there.) Only Tulane, after quite a break, and I bet begrudgingly, has scheduled another series. No other AAC schools want anything to do with us.

I do. I love C-USA's western division. I just want every program to step up their game beyond what they are currently doing, including North Texas. I think it is the only hope C-USA has to try and catch up to the AAC.
