Congratulations. I expect that most of the bottom pod will move up this coming year.

The undisputed Pod 2 champion. Pod 1 was a cluster.

No Fresh. The undisputed overall pod champion!(sarcasm) you see Mu went 4-0 in pod 2, and no one else went undefeated in pod play. Thus “Pod” champion.

And to think, the only thing standing between us and 4-0 in pod play was... next year’s recruiting champs.

Cè la tíe.

We got 2 grad new transfers this week too. Neither was a huge contributor at their previous stops but they provide depth and some experience. 9 of our 13 players next season will be players that didnt play for us last year.

Here is the thing, recruiting rankings in basketball almost mean nothing, unless you are getting all 4 and 5 star recruits, which you aren't. In basketball for the most part it all depends on the right players for the system that your coach runs. And if that coach knows how to develop players. If player A still looks like he did as a mid year junior as he did when he got there as a freshman then it really doesn't matter if you was ranked in the top 1/4 or not you still aren't that good then.

There is far more correlation to stars and performance in basketball than in football. Basketball recruits that are 3 stars or better pretty much all play on aau circuits year round against other top talent in the country. There are few hidden gems compared to football bevause football players are largely confined to the region they play in.

The player still has to fit the system he commits to, but to say stars dont matter in rankings unless 4 or 5 star is false. There are tons of great 3 star players and they are rarely complete busts.

If you finish at the top with your recruiting class... that doesn't really guarantee anything. And I think recruiting tends to have a delayed benefit. A good recruiting class now may not really pay off for 2-3 years as the players get acclimated to D1 and develop over time.

But having said that if you have one of the top recruiting classes year in and year out you will probably be at or near the top of the conference. May not win it. But you'll be in the top tier.

i dont think anyone thinks this means we will be tip of Cusa this year but its nice to have a solid class after so many years of suck. Especially coming off a previous coach that was laughably bad at recruiting.

Assuming no late transfers or injuries this will be the first time in years we have a full team.

There are far more players that do not get evaluated by recruiting services in high school and even AAU ball. The only 3 players who played for Marshall last year that was even looked at and given a star rating to was Iran Bennett, Jannson Williams and Mikel Beyers. And Beyers was only looked at because he was a JuCo player. Not even Taevion Kinsey out of Columbus had a star rating

Anyone in WV isn't going to be evaluated unless you are a top star simi nationally like Patrick Patterson or OJ Mayo or play at Huntington Prep. The rest like Jon Elmore, CJ Burks, Rondale Watson will be ignored.
