Cool, Marshall tops another list.

Believe it or not, there's still a lot of room for growth too.

clt says lambert would be great at a smaller program, so Marshall is a perfect fit. Good luck to him, seems like a great guy but he could not handle the big city pressure,

RE: Athlon Ranks All 130 FBS Jobs
Rice is definitely a bad job. There's not much institutional support and only about 40 students show for the games. The powers at Rice would never admit it, but If they had their way they'd shut down the program. Thank God we're in Texas. No one here is anything without football. We have a team because we have to. We've been playing for over 105 years. It's twisted. Football is like an albatross hanging from Rice's neck. It hates it, but must bear it.

“Smaller program”... That is funny. I hope Lambert and the Marshall D shuts the 49ers out this year.

I’m gonna withhold my smack talk until at least the Phil Steele mag hits shelves.

I know this is an Athlon list, but you just can’t touch the Phil Steele guide.

Doc Holliday says being head coach at Charlotte qualifies one to be a volunteer assistant at Marshall.

He is like the holy grail compared to almost everyone else in college football. SBNation does a good job at looking what a team has returning and more of a statisticians look and ranked right up there with Phil Steele

Truth.

I don’t get this Charlotte swagger.

Maybe they can talk when they actually pull their weight and make a bowl this year. Highly, highly doubtful. I don’t see it. Maybe Phil Steele can shed some light, but I see a program in Charlotte that’s our perennial Vandy. Easy win, may have the occasional decent run, but for the most part, doormat.

Real talk.

CLT has been posting for how long on the board and you guys are still taking him seriously?

Based upon this post of yours, it seems clear that you don't "get" a lot of things. 01-wingedeagle Get outside your bubble man.

Actually, I am one of the posters here who consistently give takes on way more than Marshall. So IDK what you are inferring. That I can’t see the big picture?

Dude, honestly, I’m not the poster you think I am.

I am 100% able and willing to talk about any team in our conference.

I’m sorry you can’t take the honest truth. Charlotte fans have no base for the level of confidence they exude.

We KNOW what our Ath. Dept. is capable of. You clearly do not. You are JUST like several other posters on this board, who literally seemed to have ZERO historical knowledge of what some schools have accomplished in their Athletics history. We are entering year 5 in FBS football, we went 4-4 in this league last year and most everyone expects us to be better this season. NO ONE has stated we are going to be world beaters, but most of us have had just about enough of this constant crap about "how bad Charlotte is". We have beaten most every team in this league (at least once) if we have played them more than once, including the "football elites" (USM and Marshall). Outside of football, we have (historically) had great accomplishments and competed very successfully against teams/leagues much greater than this one. So, most of our "confidence" comes from knowing we have done it in the past and certainly can do it again.

Also, remember we were a charter member of this league (even without football) who got in ahead of some football playing schools (not naming names here) who begged for entry at that time (CUSA 1.0). So, this isn't just "Charlotte fans" who think we have quite a bit to offer, even though the 2 "big sports" have been down the last few years.

RE: Athlon Ranks All 130 FBS Jobs
I still have yet to see a Charlotte fan state anything outlandish. We won 5 games last year, return a lot of our main core, added some solid P5 transfers, and got rid of a lame duck coach.

Thinking we can make a bowl this year isn't cocky or arrogant, it's a logical next step for us.

Ok, here’s where I agree and disagree with you. I’m not going to lump all Marshall and Charlotte fans in this, it’s my take alone. And unlike your assumption, I won’t be a jerk about it.

Where I disagree: There’s a lot of inconsistency with your take here. Yes, you went 4-4 last year, and admittedly that’s better than I would have pegged the program. Last time I checked Charlotte has never made it to a bowl game, and just came off a double digit loss to Marshall in 2018. That’s not an opinion, it’s a fact.

Where I agree: Charlotte has been able to string some victories lately, and could break through. But work and the sweat equity to get there will take time.

However, please understand as a Marshall fan I’ve seen this go both ways. I’ve seen the highest of highs, and lowest of lows. Momentum trending up is a great thing, and congrats if it happens.
