Thinking we can make a bowl this year isn't cocky or arrogant, it's a logical next step for us.

I’ll give you props on that. Good post.

I was thinking Charlotte was 5+/- years FBS and wondering about expectations? When Charlotte, ODU and UTSA were added, the conference talked about 5yr+ potential. Don't recall much in the way short term expectations. I would think bowl eligibility within that time frame would be pretty darn good.

It can be done...moving up, losing early, then winning.

Western was 2-10 and 0-12 after moving up then went 7-5, 7-6, 8-4, 8-5, 12-2 and 11-3. Then hired an idiot, boy idiot at that for 2 years. Western red-shirted the max the year before and the two years after moving up...building for the future. I believe that was the key.

Exactly. We are entering year 5 of FBS (4th technically as full FBS and bowl eligible) Good post.

I don’t get this Charlotte swagger.

Maybe they can talk when they actually pull their weight and make a bowl this year. Highly, highly doubtful. I don’t see it. Maybe Phil Steele can shed some light, but I see a program in Charlotte that’s our perennial Vandy. Easy win, may have the occasional decent run, but for the most part, doormat.

Real talk.

Based upon this post of yours, it seems clear that you don't "get" a lot of things. 01-wingedeagle Get outside your bubble man.

Actually, I am one of the posters here who consistently give takes on way more than Marshall. So IDK what you are inferring. That I can’t see the big picture?

Dude, honestly, I’m not the poster you think I am.

I am 100% able and willing to talk about any team in our conference.

I’m sorry you can’t take the honest truth. Charlotte fans have no base for the level of confidence they exude.

We KNOW what our Ath. Dept. is capable of. You clearly do not. You are JUST like several other posters on this board, who literally seemed to have ZERO historical knowledge of what some schools have accomplished in their Athletics history. We are entering year 5 in FBS football, we went 4-4 in this league last year and most everyone expects us to be better this season. NO ONE has stated we are going to be world beaters, but most of us have had just about enough of this constant crap about "how bad Charlotte is". We have beaten most every team in this league (at least once) if we have played them more than once, including the "football elites" (USM and Marshall). Outside of football, we have (historically) had great accomplishments and competed very successfully against teams/leagues much greater than this one. So, most of our "confidence" comes from knowing we have done it in the past and certainly can do it again.

Also, remember we were a charter member of this league (even without football) who got in ahead of some football playing schools (not naming names here) who begged for entry at that time (CUSA 1.0). So, this isn't just "Charlotte fans" who think we have quite a bit to offer, even though the 2 "big sports" have been down the last few years.

Ok, here’s where I agree and disagree with you. I’m not going to lump all Marshall and Charlotte fans in this, it’s my take alone. And unlike your assumption, I won’t be a jerk about it.

Where I disagree: There’s a lot of inconsistency with your take here. Yes, you went 4-4 last year, and admittedly that’s better than I would have pegged the program. Last time I checked Charlotte has never made it to a bowl game, and just came off a double digit loss to Marshall in 2018. That’s not an opinion, it’s a fact.

Where I agree: Charlotte has been able to string some victories lately, and could break through. But work and the sweat equity to get there will take time.

However, please understand as a Marshall fan I’ve seen this go both ways. I’ve seen the highest of highs, and lowest of lows. Momentum trending up is a great thing, and congrats if it happens.

Yeah, maybe re-read your post above that I first responded to. Yeah, nothing "jerkish" about it. Very cordial indeed.

Both parties have thrown enough pies in the face. I don’t know man, I think at this point agree to disagree.

But maybe using the word doormat was harsh.

Doc Holliday says being head coach at Charlotte qualifies one to be a volunteer assistant at Marshall.

Y'all gonna need to come up with more money if you want to parley that volunteer assistant into your defensive coordinator. Seems their negotiations over his contract terms have stalled out.
