I have a dream..

The only way it might impact NIU is if the AAC has a few vacancies after the Big 12 annexes a few of their top programs. However then you simply risk joining a CUSA 2.0.

We aren't going anywhere until attendance improves dramatically.

Frazier is not even to willing to address the ESPN deal as an issue which is about 96% of the attendance problem. The MAC dug it's own grave, no doubt about that

Question - has he mentioned the Tuesday night games as a problem for attendance?

It's not really his issue to address publicly and you have no idea what the ADs talk about privately or with conference officials.

It is not a negative post. I am just saying we have no right to argue about attendance since we put ourselves in that situation with the ESPN deal.

RE: NIU worthy of Power 5 - article
Sorry for the length, but all this negative crap is getting on the old fart's nerves. And it isn't even Aug. 31 yet.

We seem to get tangled up in semantics. How about "reworking" or some other "re-" instead of "rebuilding?" The latter implies something collapsed. It didn't. NIU just won the freakin' MACC, for cryin' outside. A lot of the team personnel are the same. The fundamentals and mechanics of the game didn't change. Graduates and transfers went, new people signed on or transferred in. TheHardWay is still TheHardWay.

The weekday night games and ESPN/MAC contract are just as much a shirtpile as they always were. Turdledo and some others can draw 15,000-20,000 for a weekday night game not because they're better, but because they have more population closer in and no Chicago sports to compete with (EMU is forked either way ... UofM + Detroit). It is what it is.

The coaching staff was "rebuilt" and brought in a super-enhanced attitude about being a Huskie. THammock is always reaching out, especially on social media. The last two "unleashing a Huskie" videos were the best many of us have ever seen. Lisa Freeman restored the marching band and wants to enhance Homecoming. The recent Day of Giving set the stage for better marketing and fund-raising.

Add it up instead of taking it apart. NIU is reaching for a stronger "we take care of our own" approach. Unleash your wildest imagination: NIU goes 13-0 or 12-1 and it's deja vu 2012-13.

Shirtcan the imagination. There are still a pile of new & good things happening in Huskieland. Aug. 31 can't get here soon enough.

Toledo can no longer draw those numbers either anymore

Turdledo has drawn at least 15,200 for each of its 8 weekday night home games the past four years, at least 16,000 for 6 of the 8, 17,000-plus for two and over 23,000 for one.

Do I really care? NO.

My post was really about NIU, not UT, which was mentioned in passing. Please re-read it for the positives ... about NIU.

RE: NIU worthy of Power 5 - article
Lets look at the mid week game issue. Yes it probably hurts attendance but if we had Saturday games at 2:00 pm and the weather is 45 and raining, do you think we would get more than another 2k in people? I know that on crappy days like that, I probably won't go. As for students, September and October weather is great for tailgating. If it starts in upper 30s, I don't see more going to games. Would I like to see NIU games on Saturdays in November, yes. Maybe the weather would be nice but this is Chicago. I don't know how much money we get per game to be on ESPN but you have to compare that to lost revenue on walk up ticket sales. FYI. student fees are a sunk cost.

There is about half in the stands than what is reported. There are not that many Toledo fans at games anymore. It is a universal MAC problem.

Not much to do in Toledo.

For the millionth time......declining attendance at football games is not just a MAC problem. The entire country is being affected. Yes even those precious Saturday home games you speak of. Many people are electing to watch from home on their 60 inch big screen high definition 4K tv. You know what they didn’t have back in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s when attendance was pretty high? Big flat screen TVs. Plus you have a generation of students who aren’t interested in going to sporting events like previous generations. The landscape has changed. Blame technology. Kids are not as social as once before. It’s a shame. Blaming weeknight games is a cop out to the REAL problem at hand.

Toledo only played 2 non Saturday home games out of 7 last season. They sold almost 12,000 season tickets last year.
Saturdays:
VMI 24,136
UMiami 28,117 ESPN2
Nevada 23,675 CBSSN
BGSUX 24,685(Homecoming)
Buffalo 18,114
Weds:
Ball State 15,214 ESPN2
Black Friday:
CMU 15,214
CMU was the only November home game.

Thata true but the percentage of attendance drop in MAC is much more severe. NiU is drawing 1/4th of what it used to. That is not part of the larger attendance deal, that's playing games on frigid weeknights that no one can go to. Because no one can attend , no one buys season tickets

Could have fooled me. UCF at FAU has been talked about for the past year. Gonna have a sell out crowd
plus thousands at the tailgate that aren't going to get into the stadium.
