Bearcats Football vs. Basketball Natty
Just for conversation's sake, if Cincinnati could win a National Championship and you had to pick only one, would you prefer a football or a basketball one? I'm not asking for probabilities but what your preference between the two is. Football would be historic but a third chip in basketball would put us in elite company:
11 UCLA
8 Kentucky
6 UNC
5 Dook
5 Indiana
4 UConn
3 Kansas
3 Nova
I would want to win a football chip because that would pretty much upset the whole P5 cartel cart and would usher us on the next expansion-top-candidate train. I also imagine our brand would grow immensely nationally, and dare I say it, within the City of Cincinnati. Although, the Enquirer would still find a reason not to support UC LOL.
To add to the conversation would you prefer a FF appearance or a CFP appearance? That's a tougher one for me on balance.
Discuss.

My brain says football, because I understand the implications and it would be a total tornado to the P5 cartel.
But my heart says Basketball, because I love UC hoops and its my main interest/passion

Football for both. If you Basketball guys want to get to a better conference it’ll be because of football.

Are we talking a real national championship or a UCF type of championship?
I would say a basketball national championship because it would legitimize the last 30 years and tie everything together.
Football championship are BS until the create a fair system. I would love to see an undefeated football season.

Bingo. Basketball is my true love, but I'll take the football championship all day.

Football, it is a far more interesting game. There are more moving parts and basketball championships are played on Monday night in April. Note, football championships are also played on Monday night now.

100% legit national chip. No "we deserve it based on what we did on the field" type thing.

I'm a basketball guy, I watch almost all basketball games. I might watch a football game now and then, but only if I've got nothing else going on.
But I'd have to choose football. The difficulty of winning it and breaking the P5 chokehold would get us a ton of media coverage and greatly benefit all of UC athletics. I'd also take a CFP appearances over a FF for the same reason.

Football... and it's not even close. Winning a real football NC would guarantee us entry back into a power conference.

I agree with most that a football national championship would dwarf a basketball national championship from a perception and exposure standpoint. Nothing would make me happier than turning the cartel 5 system upside down and having the Bearcats at the center of it. I can only imagine the impact that would have on our program and position us well for admission to the same P5 system I loathe! One can dream anyway...

RE: Bearcats Football vs. Basketball Natty
The problem with a football championship is that I am not sure as a fan that I want to endure path that would be necessary to get there. Teams aren't ranked...programs are. At least in terms of the schools that have a legit shot to be in the discussion. Hypothetically - let's say UC goes undefeated this year... even with quality wins over UCLA & OSU, those wins would get explained away during the selection meetings. For UC to even get a shot at a football championship, it would require several years of sustained, unprecedented success, while at the same time being discounted and not given appropriate accolades. The ride might be fun...but also agonizing. Would I love a football championship? Heck yes. But at the same time, the journey might kill me.
Basketball... all it really takes is a couple good players, several role players, and a hot streak.

Now...let's shift the conversation...which is more likely...a NC in MBB or FB?

That is where I am at with football. Until we have automatic bids for conference champions and true playoff we can't even think about a national championship. This isn't a UC problem but a problem for all but 15 to 20 programs.

The football championship is the golden ticket without question.
One of the few things Tubs said that I agreed with was that only about a dozen schools have a realistic chance to win a football national championship in the current power structure. That doesn't appear to be changing anytime soon. With that said, great regular season performances, decent bowl trips (and victories) should be pretty satisfying for all the rest of us college football fans these day.
UC should aspire to win a national championship in basketball; a lofty goal but falling short and making a Final Four is still a historic accomplishment in major college hoops. And we've seen three of the last six championships won by programs outside the P5 which suggests it's doable.

Football. Beating OSU twice in the season, once during regular season, and again in the playoffs.
