RE: Bearcats Football vs. Basketball Natty
Of course, a UC football win over Alabama to win the CFP would be as epic as they come. That cannot be denied.

But look what an NCAA tourney win would do for us.

Look where we (UC) live. Basketball is Indiana and Kentucky's thing. Think of being able to tell those two to lick our boots. We'd also be able to go stand on I-71 and give the double bird in each direction to O$U and school 6 as well.

... just something to think about.

If we won or even made the CFP this year, imagine how fast the conference realignment rumors would heat up. With a CFP championship, the only question would be who is making the jump with us and will it be the ACC (hopefully) or Big 12?

Football easy. Any non p5 team to win it will garner a lot of attention not mention we already have won bb championships. However, with the p5 clearly not sound with how bad the pac 12 is, and the improvement in aac fball, the p5 distinction is weakening except for the revenue sharing. It's all gonna blow up though down the road with the drop in network revenues so take the highest profile win while you could get it.

I'm fine with that. Then I won't have to pretend to care about the Bengals anymore.

Meh... a basketball crown just doesn't help. It didn't help UConn in 2014. They're still playing in the AAC. As for as giving the bird to the regional schools... Ohio State fans just don't care about basketball. Indiana cares but they haven't been Indiana in a long time.

Winning a FB title would give us more ammo to tell the schools in the region to eff themselves. For that matter not just the schools, but the 50% of Greater Cincinnati who still believe UC is small potatoes.

You obviously don't know many IU or UK people...

I know a lot of UK people. My ex-wife's entire family are UK blowhards. They make the drive down to Rupp for home games and go on the road when reasonable (btw my ex-wife is a Miami U grad and her husband is a UC grad). I work with a couple UK grads.

I don't live on the west side or in SE Indiana. They're just not too many IU fans on the east side so I could really care less about the Hoosiers.

I'd still have to coin flip. In theory, basketball is more possible, but seeing the last over 20 years, only twice making it out of the first weekend, and both times, no further...

...each of those two losses by double digits...

So, I'd say the answer to your question rates a solid "Incomplete".

RE: Bearcats Football vs. Basketball Natty
Football championship would be better for the university.

I've said that if UC went undefeated this season and O$U's only loss was to UC, that O$U would get into the playoff over UC (Or be ranked higher). Though I am coming around that if UC went undefeated this season, we would get into the playoff as that O$U feather would be a pretty big one and the anchor holding back UCF has been a bad non-conference schedule. We still may by behind O$U, but I think we'd have at least a 50/50 chance. Beating O$U and UCLA would give us a legit chance if we ran the table. UCF is showing that the AAC is not that far off the P5 conferences. I do think the committee would have a tough time keeping UC out, unless the SEC, ACC and Big 12 had undefeated champions as well and maybe even with ND in the mix. They would really feel heat if UC was undefeated with a victory over O$U on the road, which is what they used the keep UCF out.

Hopefully we get to find out.

Agreed. Lots of very big "ifs" strung together to reach that point. But it would certainly create chaos that would be positive for UC. The day that a G5 makes the playoff, I think we'd see an immediate move to an 8 team bracket. Not to reward the G5, but because it would mean two or three P5 conferences being denied that slot on the big stage.

It also would keep UC top of mind for any P5 expansion when the sweepstakes re-opens. Fun to think about, but the deck will be stacked against the 'Cats in Cowtown. Which would only make it a sweeter victory.

One could argue that the only missing ingredient in UC's emergence as a force in college football the past 15 years has been a victory over one of the old lions of the game. We've had some very close, disappointing losses to OSU, Michigan and Oklahoma that would have/could have been signature wins. UCF and Houston own wins like that. Maybe we're due?

I think we would have to go undefeated still and OSU would need to at least make the big 10 championship game for us to sniff it. It would also require the rest of our conference to make some noise as well.

Looking at the rest of our conference:
- Wisconsin at USF
- Tulane v. Mi. State
- Houston v. Washington State
- Navy v. Notre Dame
- Houston v. Oklahoma
- Tulane v. Army
- ECU v. NC State
- Memphis v. Ole Miss
- Uconn v. Illinois (who cares)
- USF v. Georgia Tech
- UCF v. Stanford
- Temple v. Maryland
- Oklahoma State v. Tulsa
- UCF v. PITT
- SMU v. TCU

There are definitely some opportunities for the conference to pick up some big wins but I think it is going to have to be UCF, UC, and Houston that do it. SMU might surprise some folks and USF always has the horses and no coaching.

They would find a way to keep UC out regardless. College football isn't about fairness or even logic. It's about the power brokers keeping the power.

The theoretical chance is ever-present if you make the field of 68 in MBB and WBB. Has a small/non P5 school outside of Nova won it in recent memory? No. But within the history of the tourney? Yes:

Holy Cross
Loyola-Chicago
Villanova
UConn
CCNY
San Francisco
LaSalle
Marquette
Gorgetown
UNLV

Check out non P5 performance in the tourney here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Divis..._by_school

It's easier to believe that something that has happened before can happen again, than to believe that something that has never happened will happen for the first time.

It's also more likely.

I would invest my $$ in MBB.
