OT but not... A sad tale
I recently (past month and change) started a new gig. In March, I was interviewing, and was excited because my interview was March 15. So in doing my due diligence, I looked up the president of the company to see where I could get an in for idle conversation over the drinks or appetizers.

So I was stoked when I saw he was a Georgia State Panther grad! We were playing THE NEXT day, so I could easily talk about the game and pray he wasn't a huge basketball fan (thus showing my overall ignorance on the sport). So I read up on Georgia State, the season, and a matchup or two on the court.

Anyway, cut to the happy hour/interview. I make casual mention of the college days, and threw in passing "oh yeah, I think we play y'all tomorrow for a possible share of the championship!"

My heart sank when he goes "oh yeah, I don't follow them. I support Georgia". I knew nothing about Georgia athletics (aside from them being SEC) and quickly shifted gears to something more booze focused.

Anyway, sole reason I brought it up is because today, while I'm hanging my TX State flag in my office, he comes in and says "what's that?" And so... it reminded me of the numerous students out there that are missing out on being part of something fun, competitive, and of course... something to be invested in (as the better our teams perform, the more notoriety they gain, and the more "t-shirt fans" we all get).

Now this isn't about "haha Georgia State fans" because it could have been just as easily a Texas State grad or UTA, etc. It could have been any of our teams. And it just irritated me.

Sorry, felt the need to vent a bit.

Being in Texas you guys can understand, but it's hard to break the hold of UGA in this state.

I get it too. Being in State of Alabama, hard to get away from Alabama and Auburn. Ask other USA and Troy fans.

RE: OT but not... A sad tale
I just started a new job in Phoenix and have a big block A as the background on both of my monitors. The other day a coworker came by and asked what it stood for. When I replied with "App State, it's where I went to school." she said "Oh good, because if that was some weird U of A stuff we'd have a problem."

After living in NC for my whole life it's funny to see some inter-state rivalry in a new place.
