Chris King leaving
AD Chris King is leaving for Robert Morris.

Let's hope our winning records in all team sports don't leave with him.

May 6, 2019

Dear Campus Community,

Please join me in congratulating Chris King on his appointment as Vice President and Director of Athletics at Robert Morris University (RMU) in Moon Township, Pennsylvania. His final day at UTRGV will be determined in the near future.

Chris graduated from RMU in 1994 and was recently inducted into RMU’s Sports Management Hall of Fame. This appointment is an extraordinary and well-deserved opportunity for Chris to return home and lead his alma mater.

We owe Chris a tremendous debt of gratitude. He joined UTPA as director of athletics in 2009 and played an integral role during the transition to UTRGV. Under his leadership, UTRGV has evolved into one of the top athletic departments — both academically and competitively — in the Western Athletic Conference. Last year Chris was named the NACDA Under Armour Division I-AAA Athletic Director of the Year for his commitment and positive contributions to our student-athletes, campus and surrounding communities.

Chris, his wife Alicia, a senior associate vice president for development at UTRGV, and his two daughters, will truly be missed by the UTRGV and Rio Grande Valley communities.

Rick Anderson, executive vice president for Finance & Administration, will serve as interim athletics director while we immediately begin a national search. We will provide updates as the hiring process progresses.

Thank you for your continued commitment to UTRGV.

Guy Bailey
President

I hope your athletics stay on their upward trajectory and this change does not derail things.

RE: Chris King leaving
He's been looking at other AD jobs for like 6 years already. I'm not all that surprised. Hopefully the new AD has an emphases on improving/adding facilities. We desperately need a basketball practice facility.
