The FLO deal was going to happen. JMU insisted on that caveat if we HAD to have FLO. You REALLY think JMU said WE DEMAND REGIONAL TV OPTIONS and the league said “oh damn, guess we have to use FLO”?

And I love how you think JMU fans don’t read any of these press releases. Thanks for coming over and sharing this super-secret info. We’re all very grateful for you to inform and correct us.

Yes, asbolutely. Along with a few other schools i'm sure. FLO was just the only "online only" platform that didn't care about regular tv distribution. The income was a pittance if it were distributed amongst all the schools in the conference.

IMO, it was a horrible deal all around, but it was not done to help or appease the JMU underlings in the CAA. I can promise you the average athletic budgets and overall budgets in the CAA far exceed those in the SoCon, which is made up of mostly much smaller schools mostly in North Carolina and South Carolina and they took the ESPN+ deal. So the minimal income or requirement to have better production was not the driving force driving this deal. In hindsight, I hope everyone is seeing that the ESPN+ route is far better for the CAA, but this non stop bashing of every other CAA school by JMU fans is nonsense.

Furman just dropped baseball due to budget cuts. Baseball.

You asked for sources, you got them. Never said they were super secret or that I was sharing anything super secret. Seems to me if this was so public, you'd have already understood what drove this decision to choose Flo over ESPN+. Apparently you didn't.

You’re a moron. You’ve created an alternate reality with assumptions that aren’t based on ANY facts. Congrats.

Why did JMU vote against the FLO deal while everyone else voted in favor? Can your alternate reality reconcile that fact?

Flo sports was and is bad for JMU, that’s why the institution voted against it.

Flo sports was also a short-sighted decision by the other CAA schools. All for a few bucks.

The superior vehicle for online delivery of content would have been ESPN+ and I hope a change can be made before the Flo contract is extended.

Only 3.5 years left on contract.

Do we have any strong relationships in the CAA?

RE: CAA Streaming Deal with FloSports
It looks like UNCW fans are starting to realize what a bum deal this was, and trying to rationalize that JMU somehow contributed to the poor decision.

We don't have to speculate in this case, JB was clear in his November newsletter

Quote: I've hinted at this previously but in full transparency, James Madison did not (and still does not) support FloSports as the best option to meet the league's streaming needs. JMU was the lone dissenting vote. We had a platform available for free to our fans, and we were able to cover our costs via sponsorship elements within the broadcast. I'm not thrilled that our fans must pay ( $12.50 on a month-to-month basis or $7.99 per month with annual subscription ) to watch our events during a time when attendance is restricted. However, we are part of a conference and sometimes must abide by decisions made by the majority that might not be best for one institution.

Where’d that dope go? He was really excited to scream his conspiracy theory over here and lecture us. Ask him why we voted against the deal & he suddenly got REALLY busy and can’t respond.

UNCW fans have never liked the deal, please see our boards for confirmation. We are now expected to pay $12.50/month plus tax...so $13ish/month...for the same service that was previously free. We do not take advantage of the local TV option either for some reason and we are not getting any financial benefit since the money is going to pay for CBS Sports Net GOTW package.

So UNCW has completely sacrificed availability of games outside of the most hardcore fans to get 1 or 2 games on CBS Sports Network. While the Flo sports made sense on paper, compared to the ESPN deal, in practice its awful.

Apparently your administration liked the plan since they voted for it. 03-drunk

If you did a blind resume of the two proposals from ESPN and Flo, the Flo plan is better. The problem is the intangible ESPN factor in relation to college sports. If you're not on ESPN you don't exist. Look at CUSA when they left ESPN. The Sunbelt's rise correlates with CUSA leaving ESPN as the Sunbelt filled that gap.

During the CAA's glory years we were very much in line with ESPN and even had a great Monday night primetime slot for our championship game on the main ESPN. You could even argue ESPN created the brackbusters event with the CAA as a foundational conference.

When the CAA left ESPN we lost that infusion of support they can provide which is incredibly difficult to quantify on a spreadsheet or deal proposal. Continuing to stay away from ESPN is not helping anyone. Sadly your administration seems to be the only one to recognize this.

RE: CAA Streaming Deal with FloSports
Could someone who currently subscribes to Flo Sports please answer a few questions I have? Don’t need to hear how bad it is, just need a few questions answered. I recently cut the cable cord & now have internet only so my only way to watch The Dukes spring football season is by subscribing to Flo.

I have heard you get a cheaper price by going through CAA website or JMU Sports website. I see it says starting at $12.50 per month directly through Flo and starting at $7.99 per month through CAA or JMU. Looks like you have to complete signup before it gives you a final price.

My questions are:
Once you sign up are you able to watch all of the sports(JMU FB, BB, etc.)?

What is the monthly price you pay going through the CAAOr JMU link?

Is it true that when you are charged for your subscription that you have to pay for one full year upfront? Or do they charge you on a monthly basis?

Once the sports seasons are over in May(ish), is it easy to cancel the subscription? Any problems with getting your money back if you have prepaided for a year and then cancel?

From some of the things I’ve heard, I’m a little leery of subscribing to Flo Sports but will be my only way to watch. Hopefully some of you who have it now can ease my mind. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide to me.

Go Duke's!

I like Flo- you can stream on a tv and I also will watch sometimes through the app on my phone. It’s also gotten better as now I can watch a game after it starts from the beginning just like a tv show you dvr and catchup mid stream. It entitles you to all sports and more programming leagues etc. don’t ask me about the pricing because I messed that part up and subscribed through roku for the higher cost but if you’re a Dukes fan who likes to root you’ll get value out of it even though it’s pricey.

Gotta love flo - sometimes during breaks they play the same commercial back to back 4-5 times over a 2 minute break.

I will say, while my Wife and I don't go to a lot of wineries, we are thinking about finding and going to CrossKeys Vineyards. 04-cheers
