Assuming Precious and Wiseman are gone and everyone else are on scholarship, that leaves 2 scholarships.

Do we look grad transfer or JUCO route?

Maurice will be gone too so I’m guessing we’ll at least have three open scholarships.

I wouldn't worry about recruiting right now. Things will be changing come spring.

The way the NCAA has treated Wiseman will effect several recruits on their decision to bypass college and go overseas for a year.

I believe Green will be one of them.

Yep.

It would affect my thought process for sure.

However, there may be a wait and see year, to see how some prospects fair in the draft, RJ Hampton, for instance.

Partially why the Wiseman thing was started by an SEC school official sitting on the NCAA committee. IMHO. Not only sour grapes over JW but to put a damper on future recruits.

saw a movie on Netflix called "The Amateur" ... touched on similar situation ... High school player ruled ineligible after transferring .... Long story short; he ended up signing a shoe contract, played overseas, and had his Mom home school him ...

I can definitely see the shoe companies thumb their noses at the NCAA and just have the 5 star players bypass college and get paid until the NBA changes their regulations ...

IMO the only reason that isn't happening now: the NCAA provides excellent exposure to help in marketing young players. RJ Hampton is out of sight, out of mind until the draft.

Before I read your post I was trying to remember the kids name who did it this year.

To me that clearly illustrates how your name disappears when you go overseas. If Zion had gone overseas he likely would have cost himself some money. Not Salary but Endorsement.

It depends on Jalen's priorities as well. If I'm Jalen Green and I truly believe Penny and his staff are the best group to help mold me into what I want to be, I'm going to Memphis regardless. The money overseas is chump change compared to the NBA contact coming 8-9 months after stepping foot on campus. Do what you have to do to get where you want to go. If your goal is NCAA tournament, go to Duke or Mich St. If you want to be prepared for the league, go to Memphis or Kentucky. And that's where my priorties would be and if it meant I missed the NCAA tourney, oh well.

Very good point. That has crossed my mind. Another point to consider is potential recruits may be watching how Precious develops this year and what his draft status after March Madness is over.

04-cheers without a doubt! This is where the kid's thought processes are. That doesnt mean parents agree, but kids want to get to the big show. All about prepping for the league!

Hasn't hurt Ball's status. He's projected as a Top 5 pick.

A) he is the exception when it comes to draft status. No other American has forgone college to play oversees and improved their draft status
B) exposure goes well beyond where you get drafted. The vast majority of fans would have no idea what country Lamelo plays in, let alone his actual team name...

Jalen Green getting a Memphis insider CB to go pro. Time to move on to 2021, 2020 is a bust.

Makes sense though, i honestly cant see why any top 5ish guard/wing prospect would ever go to college unless they were just from a very well off family.

I realize we don’t appear to need much for next year, but geez. Who are we gonna sign? I believe in Penny, but it seems like he’s gonna have to pull a rabbit out of his hat with this class.

Two things that need to be taken into consideration.

1. We only have one guaranteed scholarship to offer. Wiseman going pro would make it 2.

Achiuwa would make it 3.

Boyce goes to scholarship next year.

2. The NCAA "violation" accusation pushed some prospects away in fear of sanctions against Penny and/or UofM.

I truly believe if it had not been for the NCAA scam, we would have gotten Moore and Garcia. But we will be fine. Penny can maybe get a senior grad to add for experience for next year's team.

Aside from any additions, our roster should look like this for 2020-21.

DJ Jeffries SO
Damion Baugh SO
Boogie Ellis SO
Lester Quinones SO
Malcolm Dandridge SO
Jayden Hardaway SO
Ryan Boyce SO
Lance Thomas JR
Alex Lomax JR
Tyler Harris JR
Isaiah Stokes SR

I don’t think Stokes will be a senior. Not sure what his classification will be (depending on if he gets cleared this season), but either way that’s not an option since he’s a sophomore.
