Yeah it feels like yesterday I was watching “Tommy Football” in Champaign for the state title game and everyone was hyped about him. Can’t believe it’s been 7 years.

Turns out he had a brain condition requiring surgery that wasn’t discovered until before his freshman year so he never ended up playing football. Switched to baseball.

First Niemann brother was a starter at Iowa. Guy who committed same year Scharping did, last name Maxwell who was also an olineman wasn't a starter at Wisconsin. Two that I remember

Maxwell played quite a bit his sophomore year but I’m not even sure he was on the team his Jr+Sr years. Don’t know what happened to him really.

Outside of that one kid who left for Wisconsin was there ever anyone that ever decommited that actually did anything at their power 5 school?

Miles Osei had a decent career as a WR and KR at Illinois

Alec Ingold was a stud at Wisconsin as a FB and just signed with the Raiders. God i would have loved to see him at QB in our offense.

Herbert Miller decomitted from us in 2015 and went to FAU (so not P5) but had a great career there and just signed with the Chiefs

Cortez Lewis decomitted from us back in 2013/14 and signed with Wake Forest and had a great Redshirt Freshman year then had a bunch of injuries. Just saw he just signed with WMU as a grad transfer for 2019

I don't think I would characterize Miles Osei's career at Illinois as decent. He was buried in the depth chart most of the time. Poked his head out occasionally his Jr and Sr year after he was switched from QB. He was never much there other than a place holder. He made a HUGE mistake not going to NIU where he could have been a star. He could have been at a minimum a Britt Davis.

I don't know about that. Overall, Illinois probably has gotten more highly regarded recruits but talent wise, I don't think they are any better than NIU. To NIUs benefit, we recruit Wisconsin, Minnesota well. Those two states only have one D1 team. We are also the closest MAC team to those states. Kids in a close knit family might chose us because their family and friends can get to see them play.

Osei was just a kid who really wanted to play QB and he was given a clear shot at playing QB here, and he took it--- initially, and then bailed out at the last minute and went to U of I. I don;t think it worked out for him. That's all I am saying. His goal was to play QB, and he failed.

Well, we had Lynch so I think it worked out for NIU, EIU, and Garoppolo. Garoppolo may not have developed into a pro passer had he come to NIU. Who knows but it certainly worked out the way it benefited everyone...
