Samari Curtis is gone
Really need some good news on the hoops front soon. I trust CBJ but it feels like it has been nothing but blow after blow with no positive emergences yet. Still no staff, and no new commits. As I've said, next year was definitely going to be better with Mick, but 5 years from now may be better with JB.

Yep. The dude wasn't even a top 150 player. He could end up being a pretty decent player, but hope he enjoys playing for a P5 bottom feeder.

Let's not get cocky, everyone. This leaves our 2019 class at 0 commits currently.

My guess is, based on his history (this is the 3rd time he has decommited from a school), he will not last 4 years at whatever school he chooses and transfers at least once. Just seems like that is his future.

I would not say Im cocky, honestly starting to get borderline concerned with the lack of any good news. It is currently May 02, and we still have 2 assistant spots to fill and now 4 open scholarships, potentially 5 or 6. Next year is starting to look like a wash.

So VT has basically been recruiting him, with a signed LOI. Go enjoy mediocracy in Blacksburg.

No worries everyone. Brannen is recruiting his replacement as we speak.

A shooter from Wisconsin who has us in his final 5 along with NKU, Southern Illinois, Wright State and Loyola.

And if that sounds like a joke, it absolutely isn't. We are now competing against Southern Iliinois for recruits.

At this point really hope Jarron stays for his senior year.

I definitely wasn't referring to you. You're on the complete opposite end of the spectrum.

Lets hope they don't go making some unnecessary reaches, need to use scholarships wisely for the big 2020 class. 5th year guys need to be the focus, still cant believe we arent getting a sniff from Jaevin.

I get what you're saying, but will next year really be that much different than what we were expecting 1 month ago? Jarron is probably coming back since he didn't get a combine invite. Samari would have been too inexperienced to contribute much as a freshman. Fredericks was not going to contribute much. Brooks is the only contributor that looks like he is actually going to leave the team, and even he may come back.

Next season was always going to be about Jarron. Right now the optics look bad and will continue that way until UC gets a few commitments.

My biggwr concern is why Brannen hasn’t landed a quality grad transfer yet.

He was hired after the process had already started so he’s behind other programs. He will eventually land some players. Let’s just hope they are the right ones.

Curtis was gone as soon as he came out and said not to ask him about his future. This isn’t really a surprise and maybe he will turn into a pod player, but he’s far from the type of player I’d get upset over losing, especially during a coaching transition.

Just hope we have enough players to make a run at the tourney next year until Brannen can get his feet under him.

What's going to be really interesting is if there is any recourse that can be levied against VT for recruiting a person who had signed a LOI. Timing was WAAAAAY too convenient there.

We've officially moved into "Rebuilding" territory.

C'est la vie.

Maybe, but the difference between rebuilding and not isn’t Samari Curtis IMO.

Again, the only meaningful contributor we are probably losing is Brooks. Samari is good, but he is NOWHERE NEAR good enough to be a meaningful contributor as a freshman at a major program like UC. He may get more playing time at a lesser program like Virginia Tech. Good for him.

Losing Brooks (which is probable, but not certain) and a good but not great incoming freshman does not put us in "rebuilding" mode.
