RE: Samari Curtis is gone
You folks remember the 2006 season, correct? 2007? 2008? Throw in 2009. It could be worse. A lot worse. Next two seasons may be a step or two backward but we're too good a program to not right the ship sooner rather than later. Try to look at it in a wider context and not just the next several seasons. Some bumps along the road for sure but WE. WILL. BE. FINE. Remember what CJB said in his presser - no one will outwork him. Until he proves otherwise, I'm on board the Brannen train.

If Jarron stays, UC is competing for the second weekend of the NCAA tournament. If he leaves it was going to be struggle no matter who coaches the team. Basically the roster since last year was one really great players and a bunch of decent role players. Without Jarren the need for instant impact player is needed. If he stays, find a pg and some guard depth and were good to go.

Curtis leaving is more of an image hit. Brooks leaving is about Mrs. Johns and her twitter rant. Fredricks is low-major guy.

This might be too critical of Cronin but he didn’t leave a lot of ready now high end talent on the roster.

Again, the only meaningful contributor we are probably losing is Brooks. Samari is good, but he is NOWHERE NEAR good enough to be a meaningful contributor as a freshman at a major program like UC. He may get more playing time at a lesser program like Virginia Tech. Good for him.

Losing Brooks (which is probable, but not certain) and a good but not great incoming freshman does not put us in "rebuilding" mode.

I appreciate that the everything-sucks brigade is now preaching calm rationality.

Your point is that things aren't as bad as when the school president nuked the program?

If Jarron and Logan stays we will be ok. Hopefully Brannen can put together a good recruiting class for the following year.

Even if he stays all teams need to do is lock in on him and make the rest of the team beat you. Scott is the only other guy with any offense. No more JJ hitting 3s or Broome driving to the rim. Logan can defend like crazy but doesnt have a great offensive game.

If Curtis ends up at Va Tech with Jackson he'll get thrown to the wolves with the Acc schedule. Va Tech is basically pulling a 2006 Uc rebuilding project. That roster and recruiting class was decimated after Buzz left.

That is why they need a pg backup and shooting guard depth.

Yes. Does it matter the reason? That was four years of some poor basketball before it got turned around. Made the eyes bleed at times. I remember a lot of folks were even questioning the hiring of Mick and/or why he didn't get canned at the time. After going through that experience, post-Cronin is not anything on that level.

Curtis was not going to get many minutes next year period. And he can’t shoot from outside which is what this team needs right now, so whatever. Next man in. Good luck, Samari. Enjoy watching us in the ncaa tourney on tv with your VA Tech buds.

Curtis is going to transfer from VT by year 2 at the latear, mark it down. Something won't go his way and he will jump ship.

RE: Samari Curtis is gone
Come on now. Many of you are being way too hard on the kid. He committed to two different schools who happened to have coaching changes. If he's not comfortable with the new situation it is well within his rights to explore other options. I wish him well, really wish he would have been a Bearcat because he is something special.

I'm trying not to be all doom and gloom, and I'm giving CJB plenty of time to get his system up and running, but I am starting to get a bit concerned about the short term prospects of the team. They could have been really special next year and had the capability to make a run. Now it feels more like a bubble season with all this uncertainty. If Jarron comes back things improve greatly but I would still like to have some good news about the program. Just feels like a lot of radio silence.

Agree on this.

Not mad at him at all. I understand. This is what a coaching change looks like.

From what I read he was also entertaining schools like Wright State and Southern Illinois. This is Mick recruiting - projects.

As long as Brannen is good, we will be better long term that Curtis goes elsewhere. Right now warm body's might look good, but long term we are better off.

Kid was Mr. Ohio in hoops, Mick's 'big haul' and when the cards went on the table he was looking at Wright St, Southern Illinois and finally decided on Va Tech. Vat Tech is P5, but they are a perennial NIT program and middling type team most years. Not even close to UC's levels historically nor do they have the arena or fan support.

Not a huge loss and that isn't sour grapes. This next year will be interesting. Wondering if it looks a bit like AK's year here: short handed and scrapping for everything.

EDIT: I may have mis-spoken about Curtis looking at Wright State and Southern Illinois. That may have been another player we were looking at when Mick was still here. I don't want to put out mis-information and I'm too lazy to do the research.

I mean it's not far fetched that if he's looking at mid-majors that Brannen may not have wanted him. I'm not suggesting that he wasn't honoring his scholarship; just that he didn't make him a priority.

I was going to include this thought in my post above as a possibility and figured certain individuals that, let's just say, have a Micky boy soft spot in their hearts, would call me sour grapes. lol.
