Memphis just landed maybe the best grad transfer on the market, Rayjon Tucker. 20pt, 7 reb, 41%3. From ArkLR. Also just landed Lester Quinnose (top 60 recruit)

Still heavy favorites for Precious Achuwa and RJ Hampton. That team is going to be loaded.

That’s a lot of mouths to feed. Not everyone can have the ball in their hands.
Gonna be a lot of transfers.

Not sure why? The one and done guys will be gone for the 20-21 season anyway.

Just goes to show you can't get great basketball recruits in the AAC.

Whoops, guess that storyline bites the dust today. Brannen has to cobble together a team in this transition year but it's reasonable for us to expect UC to attract some four star talent on a consistent basis beginning next year. A #1 class @ Memphis should help the entire conference raise the profile and attract more talent.

Yep, lets hope Penny can keep landing these type of recruits. I think this is good for us and the conference.

Uhh... I guess you missed my.point. which would be Memphis becoming a national player on the recruiting trail in our conference should only help UC and other AAC schools. If course we would like JB to recruit this way. But obciously he can't so I will settle for Memphis doing it. Better Memphis get these guys than UK or someone.

Still need to get in some in March. Memphis, UConn, Cincinnati, Houston, Wichita, and Temple collectively need to all really good most of time, combine that with tournament success and then I can see recruiting league wide improve.

Yes, I suppose it did. Your also comparing different times, but yes a conference mate elevating their profile always helps everyone directly or indirectly. Its not that complicated, I guess we would be better off if everyone in the AAC was obscure and mediocre?

Everyone but us.

I would prefer UC get all the good players, myself. I'm weird in that way.

Wiseman and Achiuwa are one and done Big man talents that will overwhelm most teams Memphis plays. Hardaway has surrounded them with an array of highly recruited 3 point bombers.

Its going to be hard for them not to win the conference and be a top 10 team. I get that its not easy to win with freshman, but such a talent pool at all positions on the floor is hard to mess up. James Wiseman is a 7-1 center and the projected 1# overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft.

I’ll have to agree. You never can tell with new talent and Penny hasn’t had to deal with a lot of big player egos. But I did like what I saw from his 1st year of coaching, so I’m optimistic.

What did you like about his first year? From an outside perspective he took over a senior laden team returning almost all of it's top players and despite that they had no improvement from the previous year.

If you ask me, Penny is still unproven coaching wise. But his first season did nothing to make me think he's going to be a great coach.

That is not a very accurate description of what happened at all. Tubby's record was similar but against a FAR weaker scheduled. Not only did Memphis play a much tougher sch, they looked good against some of the better teams they played.

There is also the fact that last year was one of the least talented rosters the school has ever had.

There is also the fact that the team clearly improved throughout the season. That's always a sign of good coaching.

Yup. Penny has beat my expectations both coaching on court (Assistants may deserve this credit) and even in recruiting. I figured he’d pull a top 10 class but number 1 is very impressive.

I’d say NCAA sanctions are coming, but meh. We know how that rolls. It will be good to play a highly rated team hopefully 2x per year.

Sanctions for what?

We've had several top 5,10,15 classes in the last 19 years. Under 3 different coaches.

We haven't been hit for recruiting violations at all. The only thing we got hit for was the still unproven Rose SAT stuff. University bent. Took the punishment and we've moved on even though he had been cleared two times by the NCAA clearing house.

Still not a single recruiting violation with all of those top classes.

Duke gets away with a ton.
Kansas is under fire.
UNC got away with academic fraud for decades, got caught and still didn't get anything for it.
Kentucky/Cal is definitely shady.
LSU got caught 100% nothing yet.
Arizona is the dirtiest of all of them, nothing yet.

People are extremely quick to label someone/program a cheater, except the actual people/programs cheating.

My point exactly. All these guys cheat and Memphis doesn’t?

Ok!

Anyways, nice recruiting class. Good luck.
