Didn’t like his spot on the depth chart , huh? Where’s he going to transfer to, Temple?

His comment "the coaches that recruited me," may be telling. As has been said ad nauseum, when a coach moves on there is also likely to be numerous players moving on.

Good luck to him. I didn’t see the burst of speed out of him in his limited roll on kick returner like I thought I would.

Had a good highlight from competition Wednesday that Hammock tweeted out. Lots of receiver depth so I’m guessing he wasn’t going to be part of the rotation. Best of luck to him.

He really didn't get much of a chance to show what he could do, since kick returns are becoming things of the past. Hope neither Fotis or Rowell transfers to ISU or another future opponent.

Yeah. Our last coach never let him return anything. Or anybody. Hate losing guys young in their career, before we see their potential.

You sure it was his choice?
Also, more surprising players transferring out are coming.

"You sure it was his choice? " I was wondering the same thing. I don't agree that some of these guys didn't "get a chance to prove what they could do." They had plenty of practice time to show what they could do. If you mean in KOKO's case not returning kicks, eh, taking the ball on the 25 is most often the best choice.

Correct me where I'm wrong but there didn't seem to be many changes to the ones (not counting injury holdouts) so it would seem that the prior coaching staff had the right people on the field. Whether the right people were on the roster is a different question.

Thanks for the warning. I guess this will make it easier for Hammock to get a bigger class in this year and next if more players are released, I mean transfer.

I agree you wanted to see if these kids could play but Koko didn't seem to have the speed needed with his limited size.

Really great perspective on the lack of changes at the starters. So many arguements and exhaustive comments on this board previously about Carey's inability to get the right players on the field, (I'm talking about you MD).

Yet so few changes made by the current staff.

Losing 3 backups or part-time players in spring is not much of a concern. Will be watching to see if depth becomes an issue.

Fotis Kokosioulis the latest to transfer
I think it's interesting that much of the board's points about our strengths and weaknesses have essentially been confirmed by the new coaching staff. For example, the new staff immediately went out and found a transfer QB and WRs. Yet, they have highlighted the current depth of RBs and defensive line.

Maybe the coaches are just being honest about future playing time to the players.

The transfer portal has made transferring easier and more accepted. NCAA football will now have a lot of transfers every year much like basketball. That's the new normal. While it is good for the athletes to have that option the grass is not always greener and some will regret leaving. As far as Kokosioulis goes I can't believe he wouldn't have eventually gotten significant playing time if he stayed. He has a lot of talent and is still only a freshman.

I’m guessing the RB transfer from a JC (also formerly NC State) was part of Rowell’s decision.

Juwuan Johnson cost himself some money by transferring. Would have been a draft pick had he stayed a Huskie. Now he has a tryout opportunity. I remember his motive for leaving was exposure to be a top draft pick. Some of these guys are delusional and need to hang tight. It’s football. Injuries happen. If you stick around long enough and work hard you should get an opportunity. Very few players have left NIU to go on to have better careers.

I was wondering about that too, its a little early to give up and leave. Players do tend to get better over time and even without injuries he could have ended up with playing time.

There's no proof of this...Sutton Smith had two of the most insane years you could have as a defender at NIU and was taken in the 6th round...thinking Juwuan is at least that just by staying at NIU? come on...

You can question his decision, that's fine, but it wasn't delusional, TCU gave him an opportunity.

As for the transfer portal, I'm all for giving players more say and flexibility, even if it ends up hurting programs like NIU. If we can't pay them, at least let them choose where they want to be.
