Chris Beard/Texas Tech
http://www.kcbd.com/2019/04/29/coach-chr...agreement/

Quote:Beard’s new contract will go through the 2024-2025 season and will average $4.575 million annually.

According to a list compiled by USA Today, Beard will be one of the top five highest-paid coaches in college basketball. Other coaches in the top spots are John Calipari with Kentucky, who makes more than $7.95 million annually; and Mike Krzyzewski with Duke, who makes more than $7 million annually.

Good job Texas Tech and many thanks to Chris Beard. Finish it and bring some national championships to Lubbock.

RE: Chris Beard/Texas Tech
https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/college...es-program

Quote:“He’s always had the vision of playing on [the last] Monday night and now we got the taste of that,” Hocutt said. “We look forward to the day where we get the invitation to go to White House. To do that you have to win the national championship.”

“He’s had opportunities the last two years to look at just about every job that has become available - and he hasn’t looked at any of them. I think that speaks to his commitment to the program,” Hocutt said. “Well, this is the best job for Chris Beard. I’m confident of that.”

Beard has never apologized for Tech’s success or bought into notions that what the Red Raiders’ achievements were somehow mind-boggling. Even after reaching the NCAA championship game in Minneapolis, Beard politely offered a different take during a press conference.

“I respect the question, but why not us?” Beard said. “We've got good players. We've got a great university.”

Somewhere Jeff Goodman is crying after he pimped Chris Beard to every available P5 job,

Hocutt also said we won't turn down a White House visit. UVA turned down the opportunity.

He won’t stay. NCAA football and basketball coach contract terms mean very little.

4.5 million is quite a bit of money for a coach. I don't see many schools that could poach him

I agree that's quite a bit but what if he has another deep run next year? If a school like Arizona or Illinois believes they can be a lot more than they are, it wouldn't be unimaginable that they could offer more. He's a great coach and Texas Tech has had a great couple years. I wish them all the best and if he stays then good for both him and the school.

Lots of people think that and that is OK. I believe Chris wants to be in Lubbock for awhile and win a few national championships. I know some heads would explode if Tech won a few basketball natty's.

Most schools will have a hard time coming up with the $$'s it would take to get Beard out of Lubbock. Not sure if this correct but I read somewhere that if UT wants Beard, they would have to pony up $15+ million to buyout their current coach and pay for Beard. Not many schools have the financial means to spend that kind of upfront cash on a basketball coach.
Football--- absolutely. Basketball-??? Duke, Kansas, North Carolina, Kentucky.

Oh well, it gives people linked below something to talk about because they can't talk about their own schools.

Throw in a FF this year and an E8 the previous year after only his third year at the helm. Pay the man! Texas Tech did just that. Good for Beard and good for Texas Tech.

I think Arizona would be a great landing spot. They're having issues with Miller and they will be able to afford Beard.

That isn't reality because Louisville, and Ohio St aren't blue bloods like Kansas, North Carolina, Duke and Kentucky. Chris Beard won't leave for a school like Illinois, Indiana or Wisconsin.

Now let's deal with reality:
Louisville would have to come up with $5 million Mack's buyout plus the $3 million Tech buyout plus the the new salary of $4.5 million just to get Beard to listen. Is Louisville willing to spend $13.5 million on a HC that just finished his 4th year in the P5?

https://www.courier-journal.com/story/sp...467779002/

https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/college...id-coaches

Ohio St is simply a nonstarter based on a very friendly deal for Chris Holtmann. Ohio St would have to spend $20 plus million to even entertain the thought of hiring Chris Beard.
https://www.cleveland.com/osu/2017/06/ch...ntrac.html

If Beard leaves, it will be a blue blood like Kansas, North Carolina, Duke, Kentucky or the NBA. He definitely isn't leaving until his daughters graduate high school in Abilene. I hope Tech has 2 or 3 natty's by that point.

I think Arizona would be a great landing spot. They're having issues with Miller and they will be able to afford Beard.

I understand why a Gonzaga fan would think that after the defensive performance Tech and Beard put on the Zags in the Elite 8. Helluva game shutting down the Zags that night.

So let's deal in reality. Arizona pays Sean Miller a little over $4 million a year. His buyout will either be $5 million or $10 million based on contract terms.

Arizona would have to come up with $5-10 million plus the $3 million buyout from Tech plus the new salary of $4.5 plus million a year. Based on how Arizona handles the Sean Miller contract situation, the Cats would have to find $12.5 million just to get Beard to listen.

Miller: "No, you’re firing me for cheating.”
Heeke: “Nope! Totally okay with that! No cause!"

Darren Rovell

@darrenrovell
JUST IN: Sean Miller’s contract, as written, somehow pays him more for getting fired with cause than without cause. So if Miller is fired with cause, Arizona will owe him approximately $5 million more ($10.3 million versus $5.15 million) than if they fired for no reason.

It's easy to spout off misinformation hoping people will listen but then facts come out and it smacks them right in the face.

I do believe Mark Few would be an adequate replacement for Arizona if Miller gets canned. I'm surprised Few hasn't left for a more lucrative job.

I get you’re a Tech homer and I’m glad Tech athletics are on their way up. I always have them being on the right side of realignment after a XII implosion. I’m born-raised-always lived in Texas. I have many family and friends that went to Tech. I haven’t once said something bad about Tech. I have said it’s not a destination school for a coach which - if you want to deal with reality - is the truth. The Tech / Zags game was a fun game to watch and y’all were the better team that game. Most people on here aren’t anti-Texas Tech or, really, anti-any school. I don’t get why the need to be defensive or insulting. Like many people on here, I’m fairly mild-mannered. I am entitled to my opinion and it won’t always be in line with everyone else’s, but we can at least agree to disagree and let it go.

I'll root for Tech until I die and Beard views Tech as his destination school. He turned down UT, UCLA, and Arkansas to remain at Tech.

I pointed out your poorly worded post and presented facts. You said a contract means little and Arizona could afford Beard. Can Arizona afford a larger salary for Beard plus the buyouts?

IIRC, you support a fan who hates the Big 12? I love presenting facts instead of opinions.

I realize this won't stop the naysayers but love the interview with the Dallas Morning News.

https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/college...extensions

Quote:Q: You’ve also invested in baseball coach Tim Tadlock, who might have been coveted by other schools after three College World Series appearances. What’s your philosophy on that?

Hocutt: I believe when you find the right fit like we have in Tim Tadlock and Chris Beard -- the two we’re talking about here - when they produce the level of success that has never been attained before at Texas Tech University. When it’s the right fit, I believe that as long you’re loyal and proactive that loyalty will be returned. In the case of coach Tadlock and coach Beard, they both had opportunities to look at jobs all around the country. To my knowledge, neither one of them has entertained any look to go anywhere else.

Quote:I think Arizona would be a great landing spot. They're having issues with Miller and they will be able to afford Beard.

I don’t hate anyone directly or by proxy. I don’t care enough to look things up because none of this really truly matters. I have enough to worry about in real life. The majority of the threads and posts on this page are hypothetical and more or less opinion anyway. Taking this way too seriously, man. Lol. Have a good one.

@Sam_Vecenie
Dave Heeke: “Sean, thanks for coming in. We’re gonna let you go.”
Miller: “Why are you firing me?”
Heeke: “No reason at all. Nothing happened. Just a different direction.”
Miller: "No, you’re firing me for cheating.”
Heeke: “Nope! Totally okay with that! No cause!"

Darren Rovell

@darrenrovell

I didn't say YOU hated anyone. If none of this truly mattered, you would have kept your mouth shut when I posted my original comment.

Congrats to Gonzaga on the Texas A&M transfer. I know Tech fans wanted him.

Louisville, OSU, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin could all easily afford Beard

That isn't reality because Louisville, and Ohio St aren't blue bloods like Kansas, North Carolina, Duke and Kentucky. Chris Beard won't leave for a school like Illinois, Indiana or Wisconsin.

Now let's deal with reality:
Louisville would have to come up with $5 million Mack's buyout plus the $3 million Tech buyout plus the the new salary of $4.5 million just to get Beard to listen. Is Louisville willing to spend $13.5 million on a HC that just finished his 4th year in the P5?

https://sportsday.dallasnews.com/college...id-coaches

Ohio St is simply a nonstarter based on a very friendly deal for Chris Holtmann. Ohio St would have to spend $20 plus million to even entertain the thought of hiring Chris Beard.

If Beard leaves, it will be a blue blood like Kansas, North Carolina, Duke, Kentucky or the NBA. He definitely isn't leaving until his daughters graduate high school in Abilene. I hope Tech has 2 or 3 natty's by that point.
Louisville is the most profitable basketball program in the country by a decent margin, and the last coach that brought them multiple final 4's was being paid $7 million a season.

Ohio State has some of the deepest pockets of any school/athletic department, and is also in the top 10 in profitability for its bball program.

For reference, Louisville has averaged just over $30 million in PROFIT the last 3 seasons, and OSU has averaged just over $16 million in that same span.

Why people think only Kansas, Duke, UNC, and UK have the ability to spend a lot on basketball is beyond me. And those arent the schools UofL and would have to outspend for Beard. The one school they would have to outspend is Tech, so I dont even know why you would bring them up in the first place

Not sure why you brought this up today but yes those schools will have to pony up major $$$'s to get Chris's attention.

Chris won't leave Tech for a acc school. I hope you sleep it off and realize it in the morning
