Every time they mention the name Notre Dame, you think of something relating to the school in Indiana.

Meanwhile, you know you're a redneck if football to you means SEC football. Just kidding, the title is accidentally an obvious allusion to Jeff Foxworthy, the only thing I think of when that phrase is started.

Two things:

1. Foxworthy's quote was "You might be a redneck if....." So the observation should be, "you might be a college football fan if every time they mention the name Notre Dame you think of something relating to a school in Indiana."

2. His best play off of that was a question, "Do ya'll know the last words spoken by most red necks?"

Answer: "Hey ya'll watch this!"

And your life lesson would be: "Stay away from stupid people. Stupid people get you killed!"

"If you've ever used a toilet brush as a backscratcher, you might be a redneck..."

He gave credit where it was due - apparently a woman gave him that one during a call to a radio show on which he was a guest, and he liked it because "that's funny because you know it was true!"

Speaking of mixed up references, where is the Halfback of Notre Dame gonna go to church? And did Touchdown Jesus survive the fire?

Obviously Notre Dame is Notre Dame, but we have a Notre Dame College here in Ohio. Occasionally I will hear someone mention they went there and someone in the group will usually confuse it with the school in South Bend, and make reference to the football program.

That's pretty tasteless even for a message board.

You know you're a college sports fan if...

you watch the entirety of the Gasparilla Bowl.

you organize a College Basketball Invitational (CBI) bracket pool.

you hold a pre-tailgate the day before the gameday tailgate.

you call in sick or take vacation days during the first week of March Madness.

you check scores during a family funeral proceeding.

you can still tolerate Dickie V.

you watch a complete DVR rerun immediately following the live game action even if it keeps you up until 3 AM.

Nobody died (that I knew of at the time) and the structure survived mostly, how was it tasteless?

It is a cultural icon important to literally millions of people. It's touchy politically. And this is an open forum. The Spin Room would have been a more appropriate place for it. But the idea of "you must be a sports fan if" is appropriate and can be humorous. There are some funny posts in this thread. But making fun of religion, or the Cathedral burning, is not appropriate for this forum.

You listen to the entire 4 hour post game show on the radio.

Your Memorial Day weekends are spent at the NCAA Lacrosse championships.

I agree.

I made a joke about the burning in a private text message with a friend who's a Notre Dame fan. But it would be very insensitive for me to do that on an open forum with people who might misinterpret my true feelings about the tragedy.

To be honest, when I heard the Cathedral of Notre Dame was burning, I thought only of South Bend until I finally read one of the articles. And i've been in the one in Paris and have never been in South Bend, Indiana.
