Liberty accepts invitation to the Bahamas Showcase, 22-24 Nov. Our first opponent will be Morgan St. followed by either Rice or Milwaukee. Other teams in the tourny are UMKC, George Washington, Evansville, and ECU.

What an underwhelming group of schools. Are we the only NCAA tournament team from last year to be in the event? We should definitely be favored right?

Well, at least they are division 1 games and all winnable.

I know I ask this every season, but when does the basketball schedule come out? August?

The home schedule leaves a lot to be desired. I hate the non-Division I games. LSU, Vanderbilt, ECU, and Radford are most exciting. Looks pretty winnable. Hopefully we do enough to earn an at-large NCAA tournament bid so we don't have to win the conference tournament.

It's possible that our win in the tourney plus a close loss to V Tech may have led some schools to pause about playing us. Only 2 non-D1 matchups excites me, especially considering how many we've had in the past.

Excited for Radford & Navy to come in & play us on our home court.

This does seem like it's our conference to lose this year, so I'm excited to see what happens!

The schedule is favorable. Not a lot of sexiness but should win a lot of games. I think the D2 games are fine. The don’t count to the Ken Rankings so they make more sense if we lost to them as opposed to the worst D1 school.

RE: 2019-20 Basketball Season
Attendance at the Vines Center for 2018-2019 based on my calculations:

Non-conference portion of the schedule: 2,282
Conference regular season: 3,687
Conference tournament: 2,029
Conference regular season and tournament: 3,355
Entire season: 2,913

Based on the above, it looks like the A-Sun helps our average. I don't know how this compares to our time in the Big South though, nor do I know how the momentum of a strong season helped with attendance in the second half of the season. The conference tournament numbers are depressing but that may have something to do with outside factors; for example, I believe the Big South made students purchase tickets for conference tournament games which hurt attendance as they were free for students. Unless that any of that changed since I was last on campus.

This year, we have to get our attendance above 3,000 for the year and preferably above 3,250 (about a 10% increase). We're coming off an NCAA tournament win. It hurts that Virginia and Virginia Tech both had excellent years last year but we can still carve out a niche for ourselves. Basketball requires much more support from the locals unlike football.

Why?

Basketball games are during the week. People won't come and tailgate for basketball like it is acceptable for football. Football typically only has six home games making each one special, especially the home opener and homecoming. Basketball just doesn't have anything like that unless you are one of the top brands like UNC, Duke, etc. Plus, there is increased competition with so many more schools with basketball that don't have football.

Awesome! Now we just have to live up to the hype! Based on our history, easier said than done. But I am really excited for this season and feel it can be even more special than last year but we have to take care of business.

Two home victories are favorable. Lots to be optimistic about. True test will be some tough road contests. Freshmen playing in closing moments of a close game is a great sign.
