RE: All-Time ODU Football Team
Unpopular opinion, and yes I know this. But, it shows how bad our defensive backfield has been since the inception that Addison is one of our best CBs to date. He 'rose' to the occasion against lesser teams and stunk to high heaven against good WRs. He was credited with at least two INTs that he'd been beaten by 5+ yards but the opposing QBs just threw horrible passes. And that was just home games. The year he got 2nd or 3rd team. Look at the boxscores. In our 10 wins he had some INTs and passes defended. In the 3 losses against the best teams on our schedule he had ZERO reportable stats. Nothing.
Please. Yes I know the story of walk on to starter yada, yada, yada. Yes he improved himself. But just because he became a starter doesn't mean he was good. It is merely an indictment to how weak we've been in the defensive backfield. I deeply admire what he did with the talent he had. His work ethic was great. It simply doesn't change the fact that he was NOT a good CB. Good teams exposed him and took advantage of him.

Didn't Mayers play RB for a little bit too? Or at least line up in the backfield
I'll never forget the bombs Heinicke would throw to him. For someone that short, he was such a threat in the open field

Going forward things may change quickly, especially (and hopefully) at at DB and LB. and even possibly at QB.
Melvin Vaughn should be there but we have never really used the TE position.
I agree with True Blue on the DB situation.
Weaver may yet share list. I am not sure that Clarke was better than Josh Mann. I would like to hear from a coach on that one.
To quote Brian Scott, "... unfortunate situation with the knees. David Born was a once-in-a-coaching-career player."
Cannot say enough about David Washington, the best all-around player so far in our short history.

David Born was the best Olineman we have ever had.
Yeah, there's little doubt that Born would have been our first NFL draftee if not for his injury (Knee?)? Guy was a beast.

He was an unsung hero for this program. Bailed us out of a dire QB situation and was also a great target for TH. I'll never forget the winning catch vs La Tech.
Seconded. David Washington was one of the most versatile players that the program has ever had.
Amen brother! That catch in OT vs La Tech was legendary! I will always remember the feeling walking home after that game - SATISFIED.
That kid had a lot of heart and guts... Did what ever he could for the team.. Love him...
I still feel like he should be playing football somewhere, if not in the NFL then the CFL or one of the "lesser of" professional leagues. Last I heard he was on a high school ocahing staff, but that was a couple of years ago. I wonder what he's up to now
DW didn't coach long down in Currituck before signing with a CFL team before Currituck had it's first game. When he was released from the CFL he started playing arena football down in Charlotte last summer.
