Pac-12 Networks: Budget projections show decline in revenue
"Internal budget projections for the Pac-12 Networks obtained by the Hotline (below) show a six percent ($8.1 million) year-over-year decline in total revenue, a 22 percent drop in net advertising revenue and a 30 percent plunge in digital revenue. Net affiliate revenue, the largest bucket, by far, was expected to drop by five percent.

Perhaps most significantly, the Pac-12 Networks aren’t expected to increase the amount they distribute to the campuses: The $33.475 million projected for the schools in the current fiscal year — split 12 ways, that’s $2.8 million per campus — was the same amount pegged for FY18."

Network does not follow typical business practices.
When projections are not meet, salaries are slashed.
Regional networks added as network grows.
Marketing could be handle thru schools intern programs.
Buying back media rights could coincide with network growth
When business starts, keep overhead down

The problem Mark is that if San Francisco (PAC offices) goes up in flames does that mean that they are operating in a cloud of smoke, or a cloud of poop! They were already up to their ankles in it out there so aerolsolizing it really couldn't be a good thing. It could put a whole new twist on brown lung!

Once all that legalized marijuana catches fire, they may not even care.

You really have to wonder at what point the revenue gap between the PAC 12 and the rest of the P5 will cause schools to consider bold strokes to stay competitive? The Big Ten and Big 12 could jointly dismantle the league.

And yet ESPN offered (even if it wasn't substantial amount) to take on the PAC and their network. Why? People! Which is the one thing that the Big 12 can't offer (other than the state of Texas).
A conference can no longer survive being supported by the populations of Iowa, Kansas and Oklahoma.
