NIU has added two offers to the HS class of 2020.

An offer has been made to PG Marcus Watson, JR. Watson, Jr. is a 5'10", 2* recruit from Morgan Park HS. I believe he also plays for Mac Irvin Fire.

The other offer is to SF Jace Howard. Howard is a 6'7", 3* recruit, from University School of Nova Southeastern University in Hollywood, FL. He also plays for Mac Irvin Fire and I'm about 99.9% sure he's Juwan Howard's son.

Maury Povich can confirm that last .1% on Juwan Howard's son. That would make some good TV.

RE: 2019-20 MAC Basketball Transfers (Updated)
NIU Updates:

NIU has added a number of offers to recruits of the 2020 class. Here's the intel.

Ahron Ulis - PG - Marian Catholic (Chicago Heights) - 5'9" (or 6'2" depending on the source) - 2* - According to Prep Hoops, Ulis is "one of the premier point guards in the state at his position. He is a guard that handles the ball well and is particularly effective working in the pick and roll game. Ulis is a sound jump shooter and is actually best pulling up from both mid-range and three. Acrobatic finishes at the rim. Advanced feel passing at the lead guard spot."

Ulis also has offers from DePaul, UIC, Toledo, Milwaukee, New Mexico, SIU, and South Dakota.

Jeremiah Williams - PG - St. Laurence (Burbank) - 6'3" - 2* - Williams also has offers from Detroit, Milwaukee, Valparaiso, and Akron.

R.J. Ogom - PF - Homewood-Flossmoor - 6'5" - 2* - RJ also has offers from Milwaukee and Purdue Fort Wayne.

Frank Jakubicek - PF - Cary-Grove - 6'8" - 2* - From the Northwest Herald: "Jakubicek scored 12.8 points, grabbed 7.4 rebounds and shot 45.6% on 3-pointers (26 of 57) last season, while hitting 55.6% overall from the field. He has trained with Jacobs girls basketball coach Jonny Reibel at Evolution Athletics in Buffalo Grove since his freshman year and last year played with Rolling Meadows star Max Christie on the Illinois Wolves. Being on Christie’s team did not hurt when it came to exposure to college coaches."

"McCloud said college coaches see Jakubicek as a stretch 4, a power forward type who can challenge defenses with his outside shooting ability. For his senior season, McCloud still wants his big man inside."

Jakubicek also has offers from DePaul, Wright State, Western Michigan, Akron, UIC, and Milwaukee.

And, one other player offerd although this time from the 2021 class.

Scottie Ebube - PF - Mundelein - 6'8" - 2* - Prep Hoops had this to say (about a year ago): "Mundelein big man Scotty Ebube definitely deserves consideration among the better bigs in the 2021 class after seeing him in person. Has a physically mature body already so he might not grow much more, but he is probably about 6’7” now. Physical rebounder down low. Offensively he displayed quality footwork in the post with a few up and unders along with other fundamentally sound moves. Sometimes didn’t finish them, but that will come in time. Was actually impressed with how he passed the ball and handled in space at his size."

Ebube also has offers from Miami and Cleveland State.

Not a transfer, but I see that Antioch High School's Daniel Filippone class of 2019 was on campus yesterday for a visit and NIU is one of three schools he is considering. Not sure why the late commitment, but another basketball name to watch from my old neck of the woods.

Looks like they are still trying to find a point guard.

Update:

LaQuill Hardnett has announced his transfer to Buffalo from Cincinnati. Hardnett (I think he'll be a redshirt freshman, however he will have to sit out this season) is a 6'9" PF who was a 2* recruit from Baltimore. Hardnett did not play in any games last season as a freshman.

RE: 2019-20 MAC Basketball Transfers (Updated)
NIU Update:

NIU has made an offer to 2020 PG Latrell Writesell, Jr from Omaha, NE. Wrightsell, Jr. is a 2*, 6'1" PG. As a junior, Wrightsell, Jr averaged 17.1 ppg and 3.8 rpg.

Wrightsell, Jr has recieved other offers from North Texas, Pittsburgh State, SIUE and South Dakota State. A month ago it was reported (subscription only so I don't have particulars) he was scheduled to visit Boston College. I have no idea if this was an official visit or not (I'm guessing it wasn't) but he apparently didn't receive an offer.

Also, his father, Latrell Wrightsell, Sr., was a guard for Creighton and was on two of their NCAA tournament teams.

Not surprised. His sister left NIU after one season. The Mom did not want her here

I was wondering if that was the same family.

NIU Update:

NIU has added Dan Filippone to its roster as a freshman, non-scholarship player. Filippone is a 2* PG from Antioch HS and measures 6'1" 185.

As a senior at Antioch, Filippone averaged 25 ppg and 6.5 apg with a 90% FT% and a 52.5% FG%. He apparently bench presses 275 and squats 450 (at least thats what I hear...).

For an incoming Freshman basketball player that is a good Bench number. I bet that is the best among the incoming players except for maybe Johnson, so I do not know what you mean.

That likely is the best on the team and better than many on the football team.

You don't think McCarty or James can't do better than that?

Btw, I'm not disagreeing that it is a good weight to do in both of those for an 18 year old basketball player, but he's not the strongest on the team. I'd bet German can do more as well.

I doubt many basketball players bench 275 and I really doubt McCarty can bench 275. James looks like he could but who knows. Basketball players do more reps and don’t necessarily do heavy amounts. I bet on the NIU football team you have a good number of receivers and defensive backs that cannot bench press 275.

RE: 2019-20 MAC Basketball Transfers (Updated)
Instead of arguing weight lifts of mbb players shouldn't we be discussing how the international 3pt line will affect the Huskies and our opponents. To start I would think it helps German as he already shoots good from that distance and it should open the court which helps on his drives to the basket. Don't know if it aids any other Huskie.

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would rather talk about how much Alize Travis bench presses.
