RE: 2019-20 MAC Basketball Transfers (Updated)
NIU has made two offers to transfers today (4/27/19):
Jordan Ash
RS Junior - Northwestern (Grad Transfer - Undergrad Major: Radio, TV, and Film)
6'3" 190 - SG
3* recruit from St. Joseph's HS in Westchester
Ash has been a bench player his entire career at NU never scoring much, however he was a team captain this past season.
Ash also has offers from Detroit and Valparaiso.
Nathan Scott
JUCO transfer from Olney Central College
6'8 195 - PF
2* recruit from Neuqua Valley HS in Naperville
As a sophomore, Scott averaged 10.8 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 55.7% FG, 38.2% 3PT, 79.6% FT.
Olney went 25-6 in 2018-19 scoring 98.7 points per game and lost their first round post-season game to Kaskaskia CC (Centralia, IL) 94-91. Kaskaskia then went on to win 2 more games to qualify for the National Tournament and upset Sheridan College in the first round before bowing out to Coffeyville by 3 points.
Scott also has offers from Lewis University and Kentucky State.

How SF hasn’t decided we need a change in leadership in our basketball program at this point is baffling...
We need another young coach, preferably, a former NIU player, to breathe some energy and pride back into the program like Hammock has done for football.
TJ Lux just resigned as the head coach of Merriville HS after 8 years just last month to spend more time with his family which is too bad because I’d love for him to come back in some capacity

RE: 2019-20 MAC Basketball Transfers (Updated)
NIU has made another offer to a JUCO transfer.
Chris Johnson
Redshirt Sophomore
South Suburban College
2* Recruit from Thornton Fractional North Highschool
6'6" 210
As a sophomore at SSC:
32 Games (30 starts)
9.7 ppg
47.4% FG
25% 3PT
50.2% FT (YIKES!!!)
14.5 rpg
Led his team in offensive rebounds (6.5 per game)
SSC went 28-4 this season. They won their District semi-final game 87-58 over Oakton before losing in the District 3 championship by a score of 75-72 to Milwaukee Area Tech.
It appears that Johnson was a walk-on at Kent State and then transferred to Malone University in Ohio. As a redshirt freshman at Malone, Johnson played in 22 games (0 starts) and averaged 2.9 ppg and 3.0 rpg. He was a terrible free throw shooter there as well.
Johnson has another offer from UMKC.

Great research, can you make the players appear better than they are? These seem to be fill in players. We should just get Amir Brummett to switch to BBall

RE: 2019-20 MAC Basketball Transfers (Updated)
Thanks for the kind words guys. To be honest, it's not too hard since, I think I mentioned this earlier, I'm always looking at this stuff anyway. I figured there has to be at least some people here who would be interested in having it passed along like this so I do it. On the flip side, I don't at all pay any attention to football recruiting or the spring game/practices, but I am interested in knowing about some things because once football season starts up, I'm all in on that team until basketball starts up.
So, I like to read that area of content a lot, just so I go into the season knowing who the receivers are or the running backs, since those positions are kinda fluid from year to year.
As for making the guys sound better than they are, well....I like to just give the stats and keep my opinions out of it. I did think about Johnson and some way to spin him positively. It was just hard to get past that free throw percentage.
But, if I were to think about him on next year's Huskies, I see him as a bigger version of Daow who doesn't shoot as well from the outside but rebounds better. And I think Daow is a fantastic rebounder. Most of rebounding is anticipation and work and Daow has that in spades. He's got a knack for rebounds. He's just not that big of a guy.
So, I don't see Johnson as a starter, but I could see him as a role player who eats minutes and provides a spark on the boards. I'm guessing he's a decent defender as most guys with that profile are, but I really have no idea. I mean, the guy was pulling down 6.5 offensive rebounds a game (I'm betting that most of his 9.5 ppg came on putbacks). That's a lot. Even in JUCO. He led his team in both Offensive rebounds and total rebounds. The guy knows his strength (presumably) and guys like that are valuable in a deep rotation. If you limit your opponent's scoring chances and eliminate second chance points, you have an advantage.
Nevertheless, the Huskies need scoring and without German, they're going to struggle. Finding a Dante Thorpe in JUCO isn't easy and NIU/Montgomery kind of hit the lottery with him. They have some potential scorers on the team but nothing established that we can count on. If German stays gone (I don't expect him back) the team is really going to look different next year in how they play.
Anyway, this comment/post is becoming more than I intended it to be. Thanks again for the kind words!

NIU Update:
Rashaun Agee, 2* recruit from Bogan HS, has signed a letter of intent with New Mexico State.
To be honest, this really surprises me. This kid put himself on the map during this past season's State Tournament and was getting a ton of buzz. The last school he visited was SIU and there was some pretty strong thoughts he was headed to Carbondale.
New Mexico State seems completely out of the blue. Don't get me wrong, NMSU is a really good program, but I just find it as he chose that school.
Agee is a 6'8" PF.

NIU Update:
As noted in it's seperate thread, Jaylen Key is going to New Orleans.
Also, Grad Transfer Jordan Ash has decided to stay at Northwestern. Other than leadership and being a positive role model, there wasn't much else that Ash was bringing to the table. Not getting him is probably a negative, but I can't really fault a guy for continuing his education at Northwestern.

I love it. Kids "transferring" to community college to play basketball.
Nice way of saying no longer playing basketball at the NCAA level.
I guess they sign "letters of intent" too.
I do like the 2 kids from same team transferring to Tallahassee CC. Guess there could be worse places.
