Correct, Izzo and Hawkins talk on a regular basis. Slots fill up and slots close up. WMU has got players destined for other schools including Jon Workman (Iowa under Alford) and recently Whitens (MSU as PWO). P5 offers change constantly and much more often with the new transfer portal as fluid as ever. Izzo might not have a slot for this kid now. If you think these coaches don't communicate they do. Many have the same agents.

I'd argue WMU offered late for a reason.

It's an interesting strategy.

Try to get involved with a local kid AFTER he already has 12 (at least) other offers.

Remember just because a college coach has not “offered” does not mean that player is not being recruited by that coach.

You seem to have a handle on the Carlos situation? Like I said above coaches offer to fit their programs. Every kid mentioned on 24/7 or Hudl doesn't get offered by every 300 D-1 school. Carlos has upper and mid major offers. Why would Hawkins offer if a Power 5 has the inside track or maybe offer if the P5 backs off the kid. Over 3000 kids play D1 basketball, each one has a path that changes in the process.

Exactly, plus the politics of AAU are always in play but not in public during the recruitment process. There are kids out there today with "non public" verbal offers based on anticipated last minute roster changes. You could see one such situation shortly here in Kazoo.
