Agree. UAB moves the needle no more than any other decent MWC or A10 mid-major. If you feel the need for a mid-major regional, may as well get a buy game with someone rather than a H/H with UAB.

I like playing UAB for practical and sentimental reasons, but a game at UAB may not be advisable now.

Lipscomb lost most of their best players and their coach. They will likely plummet.

I like seeing how elitist we can become when listing the schools who are too beneath us to play against.

I also like seeing how some posters break down when other elitist schools refuse to play us.

There's nothing wrong with playing Birmingham in basketball.

I just object to classifying it as a rivalry, because it just isn't.

Off topic, but we should be playing Vandy every single year. Makes sense for everyone.

they won 20 games last season and finished with a top 150 RPI...I like that better than playing Jackson State. I would offer a 2-for-1...make em say no.

then when they cry for a game we can say 'hey, we offered you a series'

eh? I haven't seen any of that in this thread. The only negatives mentioned are against a H/H with UAB. That's not elitist to say there's just no point in that, versus any other mid-major. They don't bring fans, and tv doesn't care about it. May as well buy a regional game, rather than lockup a critical OOC road game slot. If we're doing a OOC H/H aim for a BEast or other power school that could at least get televised.

You gotta play your fair share of Jackson State's though. We may never have as good of an OOC as we did during those Cal years. Texas, Georgetown, Gonzaga, Arizona all came to Memphis. I'm sure I'm missing a couple others too.
Problem with choosing your mid-majors is that you can pick the hot team from the tournament last year, but they probably lose a fair share. Toss up with those teams.

I'm not afraid to show my elitism. Hell, that's the name of the game. Quite frankly, the only reason I want us play MTSU ever again is to beat the crap out of them enough to get past them on the series record, and then never play them again. I can't remember the record, but I will bet the same goes for UAB. In football, not in basketball.
