RE: More UC (football) coverage from PDoc? Let him hear from you.
Daugherty learned his trade from Tim Sullivan, who covered local sports much of the same way (this town is small potatoes, everyone else does it better).
The old timers tell me back in the 50s and 60s UC got pretty extensive coverages in the fishwrap when Dick Forbes was the sports columnist. Of course, it helps that UC had Sid Gillman, George Smith and Ed Jucker running the programs and the Bengals were not yet an entity. Perhaps some of the elder posters can confirm this, but I've heard things changed after the Gale Catlett era when UC got in trouble. Seemed like the Enquirer's mission then became to dump on the university as much as possible after all that.

Back in the Gillman Era there were 3 local papers The Post, The Times Star and Enquirer. The Post was an afternoon paper and the other two were morning.
I cannot remember which but one used to print a special game day edition (all games were Saturday except UC Cryami which was on Thanksgiving. There was no Sunday Post.

The Times Star was also an afternoon paper. It hasn't been around since the late 50's or early 60's. The Enquirer was always a morning and the only Sunday paper. I worked there part-time while attending UC and UC Law School. It was actually a pretty decent major city newspaper back in that day, with Jim Schottekotte, Bill Ford, Steve Hoffman, Dick Forbes (the UC beat writer) and others having some journalistic chops. The Reds, of course, were covered extensively in that era. The Cincinnati Post would publish a special edition on UC home football game dates that included rosters, game day notes, etc, but it was essentially a two-page add-on that wrapped around the existing sports section for that Saturday.
Unfortunately, UC's dismal football performances in the late 70's and early 80's didn't help establish a local culture of attending games. There is actually far more interest in UC football today than back in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Today's students, a larger percentage of whom are no longer commuters, have had a big role in that positive evolution. As have the donors, who realize that for UC to maintain its stature as a major athletic program nationally, monetary support is an essential ingredient.

I'm just curious is anyone here actually subscribes to the Enquirer, either dead tree of electronic?
Given what I suspect is their circulation these days, PDoc might be doing himself a favor if he found some interesting high school sports stories. I know part of his goal is to have stories picked up nationally, but I doubt Reds and Bengals stories have had legs the last few years. UC stories couldn't have been that much worse.
I have the android phone apps for the Bearcats and Bengals - you have to put up with advertisements, but those aren't too bad. The few times they show a PDoc piece, I just kind of scratch my head and wonder why.

Cincinnati is the only town in this country where the local media hates the local University. P Douche asking fans to do his job for him. Talk about lazy.

I cancelled it as soon as they endorsed Hilly. Should have done it once they moved printing to Columbus as timing meant night game results were no longer in the morning rag.

I used to get the Post when I was in college. Never picked up the Enquirer after the Post went away.

I dunno, to me it sounds like a perfectly logical and reasonable thing for Doc to ask of his readers.
