At the very least, I think they would get better interest by having a secondary, NIT-style, playoff. Playoff should (and probably will) go to 8, and there should be another secondary 8-team playoff. That gives 16 teams something halfway meaningful to play for, and team #16 is less likely to have guys sit out.

RE: Gator Bowl News
Not surprised to see the bowls struggling.

Too many bowls
Stupid, Soulless corporate names
Non-regional games that have nothing to do with schools located a thousand miles away from the site
Every game on television

There's no reason a BC student or fan truly wants to go to El Paso to see something like a 6-6 Boston College play 7-5 Washington State - it's meaningless. Two half-assed football schools, no championship involved, mediocre teams, too far away.

I'm actually proud to say the Liberty Bowl makes a profit and brings a nice size amount to the city because they run it right:

They need to thin the bowl numbers out and be smarter about the matchups.

This has been a theme since the 50s or maybe earlier.

The number of bowls however has increased not declined through out that period.

I don't want to get people here too excited, but i'm kicking around the idea of purchasing the naming rights to the Gator Bowl.
