Dukeman can say whatever he wants, because he'll never respond to people who refute his "facts".

Seems like the hoop fans congregate at this thread. Saw an early magazine last night (was probably Athlon's) that had the Dukes in 5th place and two starting guards on the second team All Conference list. No mention of incoming freshman that I noticed in the write-up. Those frosh will end up playing a big role in whatever the Dukes accomplish this season.

Alex Nwagha is a new offer for 2020 too. Looks like he's from Canada.

And to respond to Dukeman2's earlier post, all the guys that left were not getting playing time and I like the new coaching additions. So much for cultural destruction...I'd prefer to call it operational efficiency!

5th? I will take the "over", if that is the right term. We will out perform 5th.

NO need to fret over Chenery- he just committed to Quinnipiac. Just a reminder that Quinnipiac is coached by the former Villanova assistant Baker Dunleavy so we’ll likely see them in recruiting “battles” more and more. Jones is the better wing prospect and Chenery never visited Jmu so maybe it’s a good thing.

RE: 2020 MBB Recruiting
Dukes offered 2020 6'8" PF Alex Nwagha over the last few days. He's from Canada (Orangeville Prep). Has an offer from South Alabama last year as well.

This is the prep program where a few years ago Brady offered Kyle Alexander who wound up going to Tennessee and had a nice career there. Nwagha looks a little raw and isn't as tall as Alexander but he becomes the latest big man target. Looks like Mohamad Diallo, Jared Garcia, Paul Smith and Andre Screen are the other known big man targets at this point.

According to verbal commits, as you may have seen, they picked up two 2020 recruits this week that were JMU targets

RE: 2020 MBB Recruiting
Some will read that as the kids picked Sanchez and stability over Rowe and uncertainty. Or it’s always possible they liked the proximity to a city or the conference better. No shame in that.

I really believe that playing time plays a role here. That’s why this class will be tougher to recruit for than last class not necessarily because of Rowe’s instability, coaching turnover or coming off one more losing season.

I think the big we will recruit will be a bit raw and a project that will take time to develop. I believe there is a reason why Jones transferred and also why some of these front court recruits are going elsewhere that has something to do with depth chart and playing time. Flowers has had a good off season. Christmas and Wooden have earned good reviews. All 3 are freshman this season (one a red shirt).

And how can a coach/team (Sanchez/UNCC) that a Rowe led JMU team beat be seen as a better coach/program option? Sometimes things really are simple (proximity & playing time) without looking for some 'deep' answer.

I mean why would anyone want to go to UNCC and be coached by Sanchez given his poor track record.

Can anyone share a comprehensive list of all players receiving offers from JMU who decided to go elsewhere.

For the 2020 class? For each year of LR recruiting classes?

I guess you can apply that to the two coaches who left. Johnson was 3rd on the depth chart at Jmu yet he received a promotion in moving to Furman. Furman was ranked for a short time last year. Summers was 2nd on the depth chart of assistants at JMU but he received a promotion to lead assistant at Cleveland State (a rebuilding situation I get it).

Both cases the assistants left for jobs in their home states but for promotions. Sometimes a program can be unsuccessful on the court but it’s making strides and gaining respect. It’s a small community and people begin to take notice of folks who are out there working and trying to do things the right way, people who are making strides on the recruiting front as well.

I think we all agree that the team needs to take a big jump this year and demonstrate that they can win but it’s possible for a program that is losing to still be a program that people inside of basketball are keeping a close on eye and taking note of.

Darrick Jones Jr expected to announce his commitment today. Just visited Towson after having visited Jmu earlier this month.

Playing time, especially at the mid, mid-majors has become a bigger issue in the last 10 years. Kids are choosing to go with coaches that have a 10-12 player bench philosophy over those that tend to go with 7 or 8. If a kid on the team is getting little playing time because they aren't good enough to contribute, thru the sink of swim process, coaches are encouraging them into the transfer system. The sit on the bench and develop for two years is no longer accepted with the current generation of athletes.
