RE: Jarron is testing the waters...
The Brannen hire is quickly proving itself to be what I expected. We needed a coach to maintain the existing program and elevate it, that isn’t what happened. At the rate things are going, UC is going backwards for the next 12-24 months. But hey, he’s local!

If he gets to the Sweet Sixteen twice in the next 13 years he’ll have elevated the program.

He is testing the waters. No where have I noticed him even getting drafted in the 2nd round. Let the process play out.

He has to make the tournament first. When he does for 9 consecutive years, then he will have maintained current status.

Smart move, this is not a shocker. This was happening whether Mick or JB was here.

Doesn't mean anything. As I stated in another thread, 4 of X's non-seniors are doing the same thing. With the new rule, you'd almost be dumb not to test the waters with no penalty. If anything this could be good news, he may be told he is not ready and he will return to school.

Change will be good. The program wasn’t advancing in the tournament. You have play modern basketball and emphasize analytics. If your team wins a ton of games but gets mediocre seeds more often than not that is a problem. Losing to top offenses every year is a problem.

Worst case right now is there small rebuild like Xavier went through. Wouldn’t you guys rather see a few more deep runs if the trade off is a couple of off years.

You cant blame Jarron for checking all his options. This was most likely going to happen no matter who the coach was. I wish him the best no matter what he decides it was a pleasure watching him represent the Bearcats.

RE: Jarron is testing the waters...
I pretty much expected Jarron to do this. Good juniors would do this to get feedback on their prospects for the League. Most return to college with a list of what they need to work on.

Be a 1st or 2nd Team AA, 2K scorer, and UC legend, possibly while improving skills to be drafted, or go to Huntsville making the same salary as a bus driver (nothing against bus drivers) while playing in front of empty arenas. Seems like a hard decision to me.

Most definitely Jarron should test the waters. I hope he will be back.

Or win more than one outright regular season conference championship in the next 13 years.

Really? Cumberland was going to check the waters no matter who the coach is. Frankly, Cronin would have pushed him to do it and probably still is directing him to do so. Do not worry though. Cumberland will be back once he learns no one has him on their drafts boards. Even if UC slid a bit, it is a coaching change. Happens all the time.
