MTSU at Rice, game 1
Canterino on the mound so that's been about our recipe for success lately.
1-0 Rice, bottom of the 2nd. It's super windy tonight so I imagine the wind is blowing out healthy to left, and it could end up being a high-scoring game.

RE: MTSU at Rice, game 1
I counted at least 11 scout-held speed guns behind home plate when Canterino was pitching:
But when MTSU was pitching, nada. Rather the scouts were checking phones, resting or left their seats:

RE: MTSU at Rice, game 1
Owls' run was scored in T1:
Comeaux led off with a single ... and moved to 2nd on Cruz's 1-out bouncer to 2nd, deep in the hole. It was a good play by the Raider 2B to get to it for the 4-3 putout.
Dunlap then waited on a slow 3-2 pitch and slapped it into left. Running on the pitch, Comeaux scored without drawing a throw.
Edwards followed with another single to LF, but Cox looked at strike 3 to strand the two runners.
Canterino's been dealing and very efficient, until two outs in T3 when consecutive batters got on base on 3-2 pitches (single, then walk). The power-hitting catcher then went from 0-2 to 2-2 ... before wiffing for the 3rd out. Whew!
1-0, Rice ... heading to B3.

RE: MTSU at Rice, game 1
B3 - Lovely 8-run inning ... on 6 timely hits (5 singles and a double) and 4 walks.
MT must be saving their bullpen for the Saturday and Sunday games.
9-0, Rice ... after 3.

We're singling MTSU to death, like chinese water torture. Only one extra base hit, a double by Collins. Though Matt now has 4 Ks, he's again struggling to put batters away.

3-up, 3 down T4.
It ended on what looked like a 3-1-3 putout at first. A hard shot to Frazier, he bobbled it .. tossed it to Canterino at short range ... who dropped it right at the bag. Frazier picked it up and tagged the base just ahead of the runner. Whew!!
9-0, Rice ... heading to B4.

Rice had 3 baserunners in the B4, but couldn't score thanks to a couple Ks and a caught stealing.
Matt 1-2-3 with 2 strikeoiutKKKKKK in the T5. Appears to be back to his old self after a couple less than stellar outings.

RE: MTSU at Rice, game 1
Rice goes down 1-2-3 in the B5. Matt gave up a single and walk in T6, and he's now over 95 pitches. One more inning at most for him. Still 9-0 Rice.
Matt's 7th strikeout put him at 300 Ks for his Rice career. Pretty impressive for 2 2/3rd years of work.
B6 and Bragga already bringing in the subs, as Brewer pinch hits for Dunlap. I hope he's not doing so too soon. Our relief pitching can throw fuel on the fire awfully quickly.

RE: MTSU at Rice, game 1
After the 8 run B3, the Owls have managed just 2 more hits. I hope they are saving the offense for games 2 and 3 rather than just using it all up in game 1 like last weekend.

Who was the dumb ass who scheduled a game on Good Friday? They should be playing a double header on Saturday.

For years, the Owls played on Easter Sunday. The kids would have an Easter egg hunt in the outfield before the game. The outfielders would collect the missed spoils during the game.
