Colorado working to keep out Nebraska fans
What a rivalry. Fans would always drive across the state line for Black Friday. 62-36 is one of the all-time college football shockers.

Quote:Though it has been nearly a decade since Nebraska football last played Colorado in Boulder, it appears Colorado officials haven’t forgotten how Nebraska fans can take over a visiting stadium.
Nebraska football will complete its home-and-home series with Colorado in Boulder this September, and Colorado officials are taking measures — and issuing low-key threats — to keep tickets in the hands of Colorado fans and out of those wearing red.
Colorado sent an email to its season ticket holders offering a special chance to buy tickets to the game, and threatening those who tried to sell them on the secondary market.
“We are so grateful for your support as a renewing football season ticket holder,” the email began. “As a show of gratitude, we are offering you access to an exclusive Nebraska presale. We are trusting that as a Buffs fan, you are going to unite to help us keep the red out of Folsom Field. So if you have friends or family you want to bring to the game, this is your chance to get extra tickets early.
“These tickets are not intended for re-sale, and we reserve the right to cancel your order if we see tickets purchased during this presale on the secondary market. If you accept these terms, please click below to access the presale site and enter the single-use code.”
Colorado officials likely have reason to be concerned. The trip will be the first non-conference trip to Boulder for Husker fans since the programs left the Big 12 Conference, and with the game being played in September, expected better weather is likely to attract more Nebraska fans to Colorado.
Plus, with the game drivable for many Husker fans, there is likely to be a good amount of interest from Nebraska fans looking for tickets on the secondary market.

How hilarious! One might say that they have become so accustomed now to the lousy crowds of the PAC that it unnerves them if the visitors actually show up.
Also, I'm not sure how they can legally prevent or punish those who buy the tickets legally from reselling them if they desired to do so, provided of course that they aren't violating any scalping laws that may be applicable in Colorado. When the school starts trying to tell you what you can do with your tickets it's time to tell the school where they can stick your contributions.

All they have to do, if they want, is to sell tickets that can only be used if, when entering the stadium, you show the credit card that was used to purchase the tickets originally. Someone who buys on the secondary market can't use those tickets because they won't have the credit card used by the original purchaser. Some venues already do this for special events or for tickets purchased at a discounted price, usually for theatre performances or concerts.
Two reasons why this game in particular might attract a lot of Husker fans:
(1) There are a lot of Nebraska transplants in the Denver area.
(2) It's an early-season game, which greatly helps fans traveling from out of town because the game time is set by the end of May and doesn't change, and means that you can set travel plans well in advance. Later season games, in contrast, might be set by the TV guys to start any time between noon and 8 pm local time, so you don't know until 6 or 12 days in advance whether you have to travel the day before the game, or whether you can catch a flight home after the game on the same day, or whether your long drive home would start at 4 pm or midnight, etc.

It's still pathetic that Colorado would resort to this... nothing wrong with trying to turn out your own people, but come on!

They do something similar in the pros as well.
The Preds and Lightning enacted "policies" to limit the number of Blackhawk fans buying tickets. The Preds went as far as to track the zipcodes of potential buyers to keep most of the sales in the Nashville area.
I've seen first hand how that can be quite the slap in the face. I went to a couple of Packer games down in Arizona when the Cards still played at Sun Devil Stadium. The crowd was 2/3 Packer fans. I was literally like a home game for the Pack. It might seem petty, but I can understand.

Crazy and stupid as it is for Colorado to impose upon its own fans, I find it endearing as an outsider. Talk about letting one get away...these two were great for each other. Old fashioned hate.

That's what it comes down to.
Colorado fans aren't exactly passionate and plentiful. If they had a stronger fan base then they wouldn't have to worry about their fans selling to rivals on the secondary market.

Yes, a campus with ~30,000 students and some 500,000 living alumni should be able to have enough interest to fill a 50,000 seat stadium I would think.
Can't claim ticket prices since they are fairly cheap and Boulder is extremely wealthy. Heck, houses there go for over $400/sq ft on average.
Plus, 1990 is a long time ago, but still somewhat recent for a lot of us. That was when they split the National Title.
