RE: Some football schedule notes
I think we have a chance against Wake Forest - especially if it's a hot, humid night. They were just okay early last year at Tulane. I'm willing to concede our other 3 NC games are losses. We have a chance to win just about every conference game. It all boils down to how many new transfers (graduate and JUCO) are immediate contributors. If we have 7 or 8 new starters who are all juniors and seniors making plays, we'll be much better than people realize.

yes, that is so. Isn't there some site that puts a percentage chance of winning on every game?

Good news is we can only get better. Wonder at what point will HS recruits decide going to Rice is not the best option if we continue to roll in the grad transfers.

We don’t take any more transfers than other schools. That far from our biggest recruiting issue. Next years class is off to a good start, and I hope we take some grad transfers in that group too.

Wake Forest is much more talented. Hopefully they play an awful game. Stranger things have happened. And I hope the junior college and grad transfers help. It seems counterintuitive to me to bring all these older guys in right now. I would think that coaches of a young team that's completely rebuilding give those scholarships to HS recruits that will be here for the long haul. I feel like were sacrificing development of youth for a couple wins that mean very little right now.

And we are not even assured of getting those couple of wins.

I hope the grad transfers make such a difference that we win six games and get bowl. That would be an achievement that moves the program forward. Anything short of that, I'd consider their presence on the roster this season as a waste of time.

Do you just want a bunch of empty scholarships and a much smaller roster instead? There is a limit to how many freshmen you can sign in a particular class, and we hit it.

I'd save them for junior college players and the 2020 recruiting class. I'd tough it out through the lean times.

If Bloom didn't go all scorched earth the past two years and push out the veteran players then the roster would not be thin and no need to bring in transfers. Agree with comment above. Win 6 and get a bowl HAHAHAHAHAHAHA... not happening so the transfers are a waste for the rebuilding. Hopefully we see a more competitive product on the field and can hang with conference opponents. Just don't see a win coming. Not even at UTEP or UTSA. Maybe in year three or we could see Bloom taking an O-Line job in the NFL to get out of Houston.

All the grad transfer scholarships will be available for 2020 recruits and juco players. The grad transfers will only be here for the 2019 season.

12 listed on current roster (but some of those are walk-ons). That roster doesn't have the new guys coming in the fall, so add at least another 6 or 7 to that group.

Bloom had to clean up the locker room but he did go overboard. He is a do as I say Coach and our guys need to be coached up to get their confidence in check. I’m thinking Offense here because execution was so poor during spring game. I also think the bad offense production zapped the energy out of the fan base...no one seems too excited about the up coming season
Bringing in transfers is a good idea but with all the QBs in the portal we got one that no other team seemed to be chasing?? Bloom has gone through six QBs and hasn’t found his guy. (Insert coaching up)If football is about adjustment then maybe the offense needs to make changes in the schemes and not the players 6 wins should be the objective, if we fall one/two short it will still be a good season and one to grow on

It would be a complicated five-team maneuver(3 FBS and 2 FCS). Here are the current 2021 schedules for the principal teams:

Rice

09/04 - at Oklahoma State
09/11 - Houston
09/18 - at Texas
09/25 - Texas Southern

Arkansas

09/04 - Missouri State
09/11 - Texas
09/18 - Georgia Southern
10/23 - Arkansas-Pine Bluff

Oklahoma State

09/04 - Rice
09/11 - Tulsa
09/18 - at Boise State

Arkansas-Pine Bluff

10/23 - at Arkansas

Missouri State

09/04 - at Arkansas
10/30 - North Dakota
11/20 - at Dixie State
TBA - Central Arkansas

1. Oklahoma State plays Missouri State on September 4 (instead of Rice), with Missouri State moving its 2022 game against the Cowboys up one year.

2. Missouri State plays Oklahoma State on September 4 (instead of Arkansas). Missouri State moves its Arkansas game to 2022, to fill in the slot for the previously scheduled game against Oklahoma State.

3. Arkansas-Pine Bluff would play at Oklahoma State in 2022 (instead of at Arkansas) to fill OSU's slot held now by Missouri State.

4. Rice would play at Arkansas in 2021, instead of at Oklahoma State.

5. Arkansas would pay Arkansas-Pine Bluff the difference between its guarantee and Oklahoma State's guarantee for switching the 2022 game.

Since Arkansas has a higher guarantee, I'm assuming that Rice will get a bigger payday for switching. I'm also wondering if Rice and Oklahoma State will agree to a future date.

I’d much rather play in Fayetteville than Oklahoma State... Northwest Arkansas is a nice place for a weekend... Go to the game on Saturday and do some hiking in the Ozarks Sunday.

+1 vote then for the DIII Southwestern Pirates out of Georgetown??

Rice leads the series 16-5. We played every year from 1913-1930, but only three of those were SWC contests.
