Some football schedule notes
First off, I just saw a note from Wake Forest that said our game with them is now on a Friday (we're still listing it on Saturday, Sept. 7th for now though). I'll have to assume it's going to be a Friday night game if it does get moved. That will mean our first two games of the year are on Friday nights if true.

Secondly, I saw Academy is promoting the UT game as the biggest football weekend of the year because NRG Stadium will be hosting games on three straight days that weekend. UH hosts Washington State on Friday, we host Texas on Saturday, and on Sunday afternoon, the Texans have their 2019 season opener against Jacksonville.

Well great there goes the attendance for the Wake game...no worries a couple dozen will still come and watch
Recommend pulling back and saving the equipment for the Texas game.

I love they are playing Friday night. High School football attendance should not significantly effect attendance since the district games have not yet started.

This schedule is like the old 50’s and 60’s SWC days. Night games through October then day games. UT was usually the last night game each year

The 2 home games against UT during my undergrad tenure were day games on the first Saturday in October. Still hot

even through the 70's. As the Lord intended-7pm til mid October or so then 2pm starts. Before TV became the master of money. Does anybody doubt that a 7am kickoff (or tipoff) on Wednesday would be refused ?

I can distinctly remember at least one UT day game during my tenure in the mid-70s, and I actually think both of the Rice home games during my stay on campus were day games. One was the game Lam Jones obliterated us.

My 2 home games vs UT in the mid-70s were night games. Some guy named Earl Campbell ran roughshod over the Owls in at least one of those. At least the sun wasn’t also beating us to a pulp.

My time in the MOB (87-90) all followed that same timeline, if my memory serves me right - night games through early October, and then day games for the rest of the season.

Then TV got involved in setting game times. The tradeoff is money, and ability of those out of town to follow the team.

That was 1976 and was a night game. The '78 game was also at night.

I was at the '74 and '76 games, as I graduated in Spring '78.

Check YouTube - I was playing in this 1976 NIGHT game.

So UTEP is our one chance at a win?

I hear Bloomgren is telling people he expects to see a bump in improvement around mid-season and we will be a lot better by the end. That better happen.

I would say UTSA and UTEP are our two best chances, but both are on the road.

Our football schedule this fall is as rough as can be for an "underdog in every game" team. All of our easiest opponents are on the road, and all of our home games are against the toughest opponents we don't have much chance of beating.
