Bengals and the 2019 NFL Draft
Created this for NFL Draft discussion, especially Bengals or UC related.

For starters, ESPN's Barnwell proposes trades for every pick in R1. Of course this stuff basically never happens, but for the Bengals it's::

Quote:11. Cincinnati Bengals
Bengals get: WR Robby Anderson, ILB Darron Lee, 1-3
Jets get: WR A.J. Green, 1-11, 4-110

I'd like to believe the Bengals will eventually come to terms with their star receiver as Green enters the final year of the four-year, $60 million extension he signed in September 2015. After Odell Beckham Jr. and Antonio Brown were traded this offseason, though, it seems naive to rule out anything. If the Bengals don't think they're a Super Bowl team with their current core -- and it's hard to argue that they are -- this would be a chance to reshape their roster with one trade.

This trade only makes sense if Kyler Murray is still on the board at No. 3, which would position the Bengals to come away with their quarterback of the future to develop under new Bengals coach Zac Taylor. Losing Green would obviously cost Murray his would-be top receiver, but the Bengals would still have a young wideout core with both a track record of production and future upside in Anderson and Tyler Boyd, both of whom are 25 or younger. They would also get an inside linebacker in Lee, a former first-round pick who doesn't have a spot in the Jets' starting lineup after the C.J. Mosley signing but showed promise last season....

(AND)

29. Kansas City Chiefs
Chiefs get: DE Carl Lawson, 2-42, 4-110
Bengals get: 1-29, 6-201

A Bengals trade up is about as rare as it gets, but with the Packers and Patriots lurking as teams that could at least consider using a first-round pick on a quarterback like Daniel Jones, any team interested in nabbing a quarterback is going to have to talk to the Chiefs. If the Bengals don't draft a passer with their first-round pick, moving into the bottom of the first round would be a plausible alternative.

Kansas City general manager Brett Veach already has two late second-round picks, but as the Chiefs build their roster around a core of stars who are about to get very expensive, they're going to need talented players on rookie deals. Here, they get a pair of valuable picks and a pass-rusher with upside in Lawson, who had 8.5 sacks and 21 hits as a rookie before tearing his ACL last season. With two years left on his rookie deal, any sort of return to that rookie form would make Lawson extremely valuable for a Chiefs team desperately seeking edge-rushing help.

I love AJ and would also love for him to play his whole career for the Bengals, but I think I'd do the first deal to get Murray. No go on the second deal unless somebody crazy good slips to 29.

RE: Bengals and the 2019 NFL Draft
Originally from Bengalswire:

Quote:With the draft under a week away, it's time to really start honing in on who the Bengals will likely take at No. 11. Most mock drafts have Cincinnati taking either Devin White, Devin Bush, or Dwayne Haskins.
However, Pro Football Talk's Peter King switched it up a bit. In his recently released mock draft, the Bengals took Florida State edge rusher Brian Burns.

The semi-realistic dream pick of White is looking very unlikely at this point. I was a bit torn on whether Bush was worthy of going as high as 11th, but the more I read the more I like getting him at 11. However, I see quite a few mocks having him going at 10, which complicates things quite a bit imo. Meanwhile Haskins could go top 5 or might even slide to mid-round. Right now I'd say pull the trigger on Haskins if he's there and the Devins are gone unless somebody else crazy slides to us. Burns just doesn't do it for me that early.

If both Devins and Haskins are gone, I'm inclined to go OT rather than Burns (although King actually has us passing on Haskins for Burns) especially if we get our pick of the top 4 OTs. None of them really stand out but if we could get the one we like best at 11, I really couldn't complain about it.

Kiper and McShay did their head to head thing and it didn't fall among my most hoped for Bengal outcomes. White@5, Haskins@6 and Bush@10. Ed Oliver's mocks fluctuate quite a bit and he's somebody I would be interested in too but he's gone too in this mock at #9. So they gave the Bengals their pick of OTs and went with Jawaan Taylor of FL.

Should the Bengals trade for Josh Rosen? Maybe Andy Dalton and a 3rd or 4th? Dalton can be there to help Murray and Bengals have their cheap, QB of the future.

I don't like the idea of trading Dalton for Rosen, however, I like Rosen's potential more than the QBs in this draft and wouldn't mind seeing if they could get him for a 2nd and maybe an additional pick.

I would be all over trading AJ Green. He does has an injury history and he's likely out of his time by the time theyre competitive again. He isn't as young and doesn't have a contract like OBJ where the previous team already paid a big bonus so his value is probably 2nd rounder plus another pick or player. I think it's a no brainer.

Nor would the Cardinals have any interest in Dalton. You don't draft a guy on a rookie QB deal to go out and get a really expensive backup. But i agree I think Rosen is a great target for a team with a veteran who they're comfortable with but still may want something better. His contract is ridiculously cheap since it's a rookie deal and Arizona paid his signing bonus last year. I'm surprised he hasn't gotten more interest.

I agree with you on that. The QB's in this draft don't thrill me. I specifically don't understand all the hype about Murray. I think it's the knee jerk reaction from the copycat NFL and everyone wanting the next Mahomes or Lamar Jackson. Haskins intrigues me a little, but only because he has a big arm, but I still don't think the Bengals should take him at #11.

I love AJ also, but he deserves a chance at greatness. He'll never get it here. Can you imagine if he had Aaron Rogers or some other rocket arm qb throwing to him?

I dunno, personally I"m not on the greatness is defined by the post-season ship. But there's no question that many are, especially when it comes to QBs and SB wins and even some big plays in the playoffs would certainly greatly enhance AJ's fame and rep. But even if it made sense to trade AJ, I don't think it would go over to the public as the Bengals doing him a solid rather than simply being cheap and giving up.

Anyway, as far as the draft goes it sounds like the Bengals are much more interested in trading down than up, like a lot of teams. It could make sense if both the Devins are gone (White's a lock to be gone, Bush is iffy at best) and they want an OT (I've got an inkling they may really like Ford). I still see quite a few mocks saying the Bengals go QB, but I get the feeling it ain't happening regardless of who is there at 11.

FWIW, Kiper's final says they take Bush and I'd be very pleased with that outcome at this point. McShay's has Bush going 10th to Denver and the Bengals taking OT Jonah Williams from Alabama. Anybody heard what Lap's got to say? He's usually on point although I wonder if his sources are still strong given the new coaching staff.

Two surprise picks in the top 10. i imagine that the bengals aren't trading down now since they will likely get someone in their top 10

Knew that was coming as soon as I saw it was the steelers. NOt sure what they traded, but give them credit. Unless we love a particular OT, I'd try to trade down if they don't want a QB like Haskins.
