Simply playing a game that they love. Sure, the school benefits, but turning a profit on athletics is not the goal of an athletic department. Athletics provides good marketing, and it's a pretty beneficial system for the school and the athletes. The Zions of college athletics certainly aren't hurting, and neither are the girls getting a free education for playing volleyball at Wright State.

Anyone asking for student athletes to get salaries, paid endorsements, etc. is asking for any program on the outside of the good ol' boys club to eternally join the Shawnee States and Cleveland States of the world in total athletic irrelevance. If you think the move from a BCS conference to the G5 was bad, this is worse. Don't buy into the ESPN company line, this would be a death sentence for most FBS football programs and non-P5 major basketball programs, including ours. Any good players we found or developed could then immediately transfer to a P5 school where they could get a salary, signing bonus, and endorsement. Absolute chaos.

We do not have the money to pay salaries; we do not have the exposure that companies want when offering endorsements. Recruiting would completely evaporate. Do not wish for this.

This is just an attempt by the networks and largest programs in college sports to further consolidate the wealth, disguised as concern for student athletes and "letting them profit off their own work."

Yes, exactly what you said 100%. This would be a disaster, and would only end up benefiting the 1% of schools and atudent athletes when it is all said and done. We would be dead in the water immediately. Could you imagine UK or Duke approaching our best player (say JC this year) and saying hey come play for us this year (dont have to sit out) and we will hook you up with this sweet endorsement deal. And Joe Booster who happens to own some car dealerships gets to hook him up with a million $ endorsement for his car dealership. It would be total chaos and totally delegitimize the spirit of what college athletics is supposed to be.

Was hoping to find a Jerry Seinfeld meme in here somewhere.

"What's the deal with transfers, anyway?"

If UC room and board is $28,000/year, a player is paid $13.46 an hour to play basketball, assuming 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year.

Just curious - how many out there really believe good players aren’t already getting paid?

Cincinnati in middle of huge city. I'll take our chances to pay players over Duke nc Kansas of the world's. They don't even have major airports or malls. Stop believing the lies. I can't pay all sports but football and basketball need pay. You cut off the aau handlers doing this but they'll eventually find they way back in
