RE: Brannen Official
Was Branned the sexy pick? No. Was Brannen the safest pick? I think so. Does he have a high ceiling? Yes, I think he does. Short of Billy Donovan or Rick Pitino, I don’t know if there was a more qualified candidate. And those 2 were pie in the sky long shots. This guy has proved he can win in DI, is a former player, and has some recruiting chops from VCU and BAMA. I think this is a really solid choice, and he can be a good or great bball coach here if things roll the right way.

At 1.5 million per year, Coach Brannen just got a HUGE raise.

After UC makes the Sweet 16, will be probably up him another million a year.

I would have Interviewed the others (not more than 1-2 days more as we needed to wrap this up) just in case you found a better candidate but more so to have a few options for down the road. You can’t really interview anybody any other time except for when there’s an opening.

So... how do you know all of the candidates Bohn was interested in were not interviewed? Do you have insider info? Clue us in.

My only concern is being a G5 program currently.

As for Brennan, I saw Chad mention the contract is for 6 years at 1.5m per year with incentives for performance and retention. I’m sure if he does well he can earn a pay raise.

His name is Brannen!

I’m pretty happy with the hire. Brannen was 2nd on my list to Forbes. I think his risk/reward is pretty enticing.

I have always wondered if Coach Brannen played in that league??

I remember a guy named Brannen that looks like our new coach. He also played at a local college. I’m pretty sure it’s the same guy, and I hope it is! Love the way he played! Head fakes, nice jumpshot, moves down low. Just a smart great basketball player. Very skilled!

He averaged 20 ppg and was Southern Conference Player of the Year at Marshall. He could play...
Nice! Was he the same dude that played in the Purcell summer league in Cincinnati?

RE: Brannen Official
Seems like the smart safe hire. I want to see a team that plays modern basketball, shoot the three and defends the three. I want to see an uptick in recruiting that leads to a willingness to take transfers of all varieties.

Those two things drove me crazy about Cronin. Layups and FT’s might have won 30 years ago but today the 3 ball rules. Transfers can actually help your time, even grad transfers.

Other positives in my view. We get a clean slate in Crosstown Shootout and in the post season. Those are potentially huge benefits of a coaching change because failures in the biggest moments defined the previous regime even though that is probably an unfair way to describe their tenure.

Relax.
Read above. Someone was guessing they closed the process. I was just talking out loud with my opinion. It’s a fan site. And I welcome the new coach with open arms and will support him.

Congratulations @coachbrannen! Welcome to the Bearcat Family! I recommend the first bridge that you build would be to hire @vanexel31 as and assistant. He can relate to the players and he can definitely develop them. @GoBearcatsMBB @GoBearcatsCClub

I am not a big fan of this hire, but I don’t get why KMart and former players would be that pissed over it. NVE didn’t get interviewed? Oh well, why would he? He has ZERO meaningful college or head coaching expierence and simply being a former player doesn’t make you qualified to be the head coach of a top 15 all time program. If that is their isssue, then STFU.

RE: Brannen Official
Why are people acting like the amount we paid him is a reflection of how he can coach. Why would we start Brannen our at the same, or higher pay, as someone Like Cronin or other coaches who have proven they can consistently compete in major college Basketball? At this price he gets a nice raise and we still have room to offer him an extension when the time comes.

Would NVE be interested in an assistant position? I would have liked NVE but he is not more qualified than John Brannen. The former players should be doing their best to support the new coach. It’s an important time for the future of the program and them getting behind the new coach is pretty important IMO.

Somebody made the point on twitter that if NVE came on as an assistant (highly unlikely), how many losses before some fans started calling for NVE to replace Brannen?
