Spring Game kickoff time
I understand Saturday’s spring game kickoff has been moved from afternoon to morning. Anyone know when the actual kickoff time will be?

Thanks

Thank you for your continued support of Rice Football! This Saturday’s (4/13) Blue Gray game has been pushed back to start at 3 PM (originally 11 AM) and is free for everyone to attend. This is your chance to see the 2019 Rice Owls Football team for the first time and is always a great family-friendly event! We will have the Papa John’s concession stand open and Fajita Pete’s and Karbach Brewing Co. on-site sampling. You’ll also want to stop by our official team gear surplus sale on the west concourse. We hope to see you all there!

RE: Spring Game kickoff time
Just saw on the local news in Houston that the defense dominated the spring game with two picks, but that we gave a walk-on RB (Ari Broussard) a scholarship for the summer for his performance at the end of spring ball

I've seen more intricate passing schemes at Powderpuff games. Almost everything to the sidelines - many requiring a QB with a rocket arm and precision; hence the poor completion percentage.

not knocking the coaching (as this is a scrimmage).... but if you don't have the arm strength to throw to the sidelines, don't run an offense that requires it.

Again, not knocking the coaching as they may simply be working on 'where they want to be' and not 'where they are'.... it could be a really valuable recruiting tool to show a big armed QB recruit 'what we need and don't have... you can play early'... etc...

but if we are running plays that we demonstrably don't have the skills to execute in real games (that's what's being claimed here) just because 'that's who we want to be', that will be a different thing

This has been my "square pegs into round holes" criticism of coaches for some time. A lot of coaches are so dedicated to doing things a certain way that they don't make adjustments for personnel. It's great to have a certain style as an aspirational goal. But if you don't have the Jimmys and Joes to execute that, you probably need to change your Xs and Os.

Bum Phillips used to say of certain coaches, "He can take his'uns and beat your'uns, or he can take your'uns and beat his'uns." That's the kind of coach you have to be to win at Rice.

It’s also possible that the sideline passing attack was by design to prevent throwing in the middle of the field into traffic and keep the INT count down. Going to be tough sledding next year...but hey don’t worry..”we are young”. The longhorns will be out for blood with title hopes in sight. Maybe we can learn something about brutality after Army rolls us up for a couple hundred yards rushing.

In the QBs’ defense, the receivers didn’t exactly help them out. Tons of drops. Getting Trammell back healthy is imperative.

That said, I’m much more impressed with the defensive progress than the offense. Long way to go. We may need some staff changes on that side of the ball if things don’t get better.

Nothing new from me, but I question whether, given our limitations, we can ever recruit the kinds of athletes needed to run a power-running, drop-back passing offense.

Easy answer: No.

well technically if we hold Army to a couple hundred rushing yards we'll actually win that game

Let me edit my previous statement. If we can keep them under a 1/4 ton In yardage we could win but unfortunately we would still have to score.

Several passes dropped by WRs and they could not get separation. OL missed several assignments. Accuracy is a lot better than last two years but some passes were big misses. 1st QB could have had three ints. 2nd QB had a long drive but calling a time out, delay of game and false start killed momentum...then missed the field goal.
Tempo was something the OL was not ready for

Guess we lost the ? to baseball. You might be right on your guess that Harvard will get every chance imaginable to start...the passing percentage took care of that. OL and WRs also helped make that decision easier
