Would not be shocked to see John Brannen put his best players on the floor in 19-20 and not always play traditional with a PG. Could see Cincinnati go for long stretches with a perimeter of Jarron Cumberland, Jaevin Cumberland, and Keith Williams with Scott and Diarra up front.

John Brannen tells me that Oakland grad transfer Jaevin Cumberland --- the cousin of Jarron Cumberland --- has signed with Cincinnati. Averaged 17.2 PPG last season. Immediately eligible.
This is going to be fun Scott and Diarra can take turns as the pick setter and role, while the other plays the weakside dumpoff for lobs. Jarron and Jaevin can shoot off the picks and Keith can go strong to the basket.

With the way Scott's mid range jumper developed late in the season, I could easily see him being great in a pick and flare type offense.

Scott is probably our most valuable player aside from JC. It remains to be see what the new guys bring, but Trevon was on a tear at the end of the season and really becoming a great player.

RE: 2019-2020 Roster Movement
So is this the roster for 2019-20? Is this right?

Seniors
J. Cumberland - G/Wing/offensive everything
J. Cumberland - PG
Scott - F
McNeal - PG
Sorolla - C
Koz - walk on

Juniors
Williams - SG/SF
Moore - SG/SF
Vogt - C (sitting out 2019-20)
Martin - walk on

Sophomores
Diarra - C/PF

Freshman
Hardnett - F
Toyambi - F
Adams-Woods - PG
Davenport - SG/SF (there's no confirmation about his height; it's listed between 6'4" and 6'7")

Adams-Woods won't ever see the floor with this roster, so I'll bet he redshirts. Davenport is already very developed so I doubt they redshirt him, but it's possible.

From everything I read, one of the reason MAW signed here was playing time. With the signing of Cumberland and McNeal do you think he changes his mind? Can he still back out or is he locked in now?

In my opinion, "playing time" is still incredible for him. At the moment, he has three years with literally no one on the roster ahead of him.

Basically if he is good enough he gets backup minutes this year and is a three year starter in the backcourt.

Ok I wasn't sure if it was something to keep an eye on. I was just wondering if he might reconsider now that the other two have joined the team and the Gophers had lots of playing time available.

He or McNeal are going to get alot of minutes when Cumberland, Cumberland and/or Williams comes out. 2 should be in at all times with them rotating. The better of the 2 should see about as many minutes as Broome was getting and the other what LoJo was getting. And then I think Moore and Davenport should be getting the minutes in the 4 guard set as Moore and Fredricks got(with Keith Williams being the other Forward). I expect the 4 guard a lot early until we know for sure what Diarra does with starting C minutes and Sorolla the only vet behind him and Scott.

I wouldn't be surprised if Moore is the first guy off the bench at SG and SF. He was playing out of position when he played the 4 last year. It will be between him, McNeal and MAW and I'm not high on McNeal and MAW is a freshman. If Moore can find his shot, his ability to play positions 2-4 will make him our 6th man. McNeal/MAW battle it out for backup PG and spot minutes at other positions. Prince/Hardnett/Davenport could also see some minutes at SF.

The 4-5 positions are the most interesting. The starters seem obvious (Scott, Diarra), but there is a lot of unknown depth behind them and the options of going big (Sorolla) or small (Prince/Hardnett/Davenport). Sorolla in my mind is a situational backup (for teams with a strong big man), there's a reason he was Valpo's backup Center. Davenport/Hardnett/Prince all seem to have tons of potential, but they are all unknowns. It will be a fun competition to watch. I think Hardnett may have an advantage this year, simply because he is the tallest of those three.

RE: 2019-2020 Roster Movement
Not sure who else is into this kinda stuff, but I was always big into jersey numbers when I was a kid. The team posted a 30 second video of workouts/drills on facebook, and from what I can gather:

Jaevin is 15
Sorolla is 22 (Should be retired for Steve Logan!)
Adams-Woods is 10
McNeal is 3
Davenport was working out with a shirt with no number

BUT, now that I think about it, all these numbers were in use last year, and these could be the same practice uniforms as last year.

Carry on.

but in other news

MAMOUDOU CUT THE HAIR!

I had absolutely no idea who it was in the video.

Brannen loaded up this offseason. What a job by this new staff. I'm so excited for the future of UC basketball right now.

Seriously, look at transfer out vs. transfer in/commit...it's kind of crazy.

OUT:
Brooks (Solid big, definite loss)
Nsoseme (Big with terrible hands and feet but super high motor)
Fredericks (would not have contributed on any team with any depth whatsoever)
Johnson (2mpg guy last year without a shot, but another high energy guy)
Hardnett (unknown commodity, but redshirted last year when others didn't)
Curtis (150-200 ranked player)

IN:
Harvey (Top 50 player)
Jae. Cumberland (17ppg on 44/40/80 shooting last year at a D1 College)
Sorolla (Slow depth big)
Adams-Woods (like for like replacement with Curtis)
McNeal (D1 PG with 2 years of starting experience at a good college program in NM)
Davenport (Unknown commodity, likely a depth guy, but apparently has a pretty polished game)
Vogt (7-footer with decent enough game to add depth when available)

I'd say that's a pretty decent turnaround, and he clearly values wing/perimeter play and people who can create (and make) their own shots above previous system-type players

If we land a quality big for 2020, this roster is set.
