Yeah, that really bites. He was second to JC, in people I least wanted to see transfer. He's the only strong rim protector on this team. No one else is even close in that regard.

If Brannen wants to press, a guy like Brooks is essential.

Local 12 sports showed a clip last night of Trevon Scott saying the guys decided to stick together and they are ready to get to work. FWIW

gobearcats site had a gallery of pictures from yesterday and it showed Cumberland getting a nice hug from Brannen's wife before the press conference. Doesn't sound like one that is leaving to me.

Expected from Scott, as he is considered the team leader. Brooks I believe was out of town.

Cumberland still has to decide if wants to turn pro. Curtis has to evaluate his options.

With that being said the core reserves are likely to stick around and follow Scott. I also believe Mick pleaded with them to stay together as well. The key will be the upcoming workouts and then the summer period.

If Cumberland stays then this team is in great shape as Brannen can fill the rest of key spots with recruits.

RE: 2019-2020 Roster Movement
Scott and Brooks appeared to have a good rapport on the court during games. We never know what else is going on in any player's life circumstances but I'll be surprised if, in the end, Brooks decides to leave. He's a gifted defender and a year with a new staff might help his offensive game to a great extent.

My impression of this particular Bearcat team is that they are pretty close with one another. Odds are, upperclassmen would want to finish here and will set the example for the underclassmen.

Selfishly, I think we all hope we don't have to see a significant roster change this coming season as our new staff will face a big enough challenge just recruiting for 2020.

Listened to Mo's interview with Chad last night and didn't realize that Brannen recruited Tre heavily coming out of HS. Probably didn't take long for him to go be all in; and even if he didn't like the coach he was likely staying with his sisters coming.

JC may test the waters but he has never been listed as far as I'm aware as a 2nd round selection in any mock draft. Even if he does test the water I'd assume its a strong likelihood he comes back.

Brooks would be a disappointment. It's a little weird that his family would put on social media they haven't been contacted when we know Brannen has been talking to the kids and their families. It would seem for this to be true that the Brooks camp hasn't wanted to make contact with Brannen. Hope Brannen can smooth this over.

Curtis I'm sure would be given his release if desired but Brannen seems like a good guy and a fun coach to play for; I don't see why he'd want to move now.

Regardless it's likely with 1 or 2 recruits this is still a very dangerous team and has a chance to keep up the high 20s/30 win totals from recent years and gives Brannen a year to put his stamp on things with the important 2020 class.

Bolded, a good assessment. Just speculating here, but Curtis first chose to play within 60 miles of home @ X. When Mack left, he again chose to play within 60 miles of home @ UC. That might suggest he wants to continue his collegiate career near family and friends.

My hope for the future is Brannen gets that first commitment from such great local/regional players rather than on the rebound. Among his best statements at the presser, "This is Cincinnati's Team." We all know that but it's refreshing for our coach to articulate it.

RE: 2019-2020 Roster Movement
Somebody explain this to me...

If all these guys came here to play for Cronin and (apparently) Cronin only... then why didn't they just transfer to UCLA the day Cronin took the job?

Why would he take them at UC, but not UCLA? I think we proved last season that our team was clearly superior to what UCLA had.

And if you just don't want to play for a new coach, isn't the coach at whatever school you transfer to going to be... a new coach?

I imagine any coaching change is going to be emotional. Some will adapt and adjust better than others. At the end of the day if these guys want to play pro ball they are going to adjust and learn from a new coach. If they want to have a life outside of basketball they are going to learn and adjust to a new boss.

Maybe moving on is best for some players.

RE: 2019-2020 Roster Movement
Coaches matter for but I also think that people wildly understate that players commit to the school and that is a big factor for most. Tre, for example, you don't think his sisters came here because he really likes the school? I'm sure he liked Cronin but his sisters weren't going to play for Mick. As long as they're playing for someone who is going to help develop their game and are getting playing time staying makes a lot of sense.

I really liked Mick but it's not like the guys who committed were signing up to be coached by a Roy Williams or Mark Few. People came here to play for a good coach, a great school, and a good opportunity. Seemingly nothing has changed in that regard.

Exactly... and for the majority of our team, they just don't have pro potential. Playing for next year's UC team could be a highlight of their career, and it should be pretty fun to ball out under a coach like John Brannen. I never understood the concern for a mass exodus. I know they love Mick, but surely they will enjoy playing modern basketball more than Mickball... Scott seems pretty dang excited! 04-cheers

RE: 2019-2020 Roster Movement
Brooks could cement some kind of a legacy here if he returned. Especially if they make a somewhat deep run in March and as the first team in the Brennan era. Will be much harder to do in just 1 year as a transfer, even if they make a run he won’t be remembered as fondly as he would here as a 4 year player.

I get committing to a coach and being disappointed but isn’t it better to stay here where you are at least familiar with your teammates, facilities, etc... than transfer and play for a new coach anyway as well as new teammates, facilities, etc...?

Or transfer and lose playing time to a 1-and-done player.

With the amount of scholarships we will have available for '20-'21, Mr. Brannen better be on the phone to the Housers and David Jenkins ASAP...all would be solid for his system.

Hopefully Fredericks is the only player transferring. I expected we would lose some players and if we only lose Fredericks that would be a huge win.

it would be nice to find a grad transfer point guard to help with Logan Johnson. Johnson will probably be an outstanding PG but in case he takes as long as Justin Jenifer to develop it would be nice having another one to help.
jenifer will be sorely missed next year.

Interesting, another left handed #3 at the point guard. Hope he picks up where Justin left off last year.
