I feel like that whole challenge is an excuse to get Kansas v Kentucky. And I’m for it.

RE: pretty big AAC/SEC news
Was this the scheduling alliance Aresco was referencing for the new AAC TV deal? It's obviously nice for the four selected programs, but not exactly helpful for the other eight programs. I guess you need to take what you can get.

Mississippi State and Missouri have not participated in the challenge in several years, which is interesting. Georgia and Alabama have missed the challenge for a few years as well.

I believe he said he was working on multiple scheduling agreements.

I imagine Tennessee, Florida, UK, and the strongest SEC programs will be matched with the Big XII. Texas vs. A&M and KU vs. Mizzou should be on a neutral court (politics aside), but the KU-UK game is definitely a headliner.

Memphis vs. either of the Mississippi schools seems natural. As does Houston/Tulane vs. LSU, although I could see LSU vs. Texas as a headliner. Missouri vs. Wichita could be solid. South Carolina vs. ECU. 04-drinky

I'm also wondering if Aresco is working on a Pac 12 agreement. I'm pretty sure he said they were working on more than one.

Arizona and UCLA didn't want to play the Big East schools in a challenge, I doubt they then go and sign with the AAC.

Cincinnati v. UCLA would be very interesting all of a sudden...

Good get for the AAC!

Will they rotate those four teams or will it be UConn, Houston, Cincinnati and Memphis most of the time?

Big Ten has 4 teams a year getting left out of the GAvitt Games.

(But I remember Stever20 complaining that Michigan State is always in some Champions Classic thing instead, so they may not have 4 available)

Memphis already has UT and Ole Miss on the schedule.

Good for the top 4 teams but I don't see how this helps the bottom dwellers

If I am the AAC, I don't want my bottom dwellers to start ruining at large bids.

I would want Tulane and ECU to just win 10 nonconference games and come in around .500 overall for the season. Anything more, and my hoops brands are hurt.

I don't think Tulane is ready for a stacked nonconference slate right now. Another 4-8 start would be a disaster.

might not help the bottom dwellwers, but it helps make the top teams better, meaning if those team in 5-6 range beat them, that helps their at large cases.....

Tulane didn't hurt the top teams in the AAC this year. There's no longer the concept of the RPI killer with the NET ratings.

Mississippi State and Missouri have not participated in the challenge in several years, which is interesting. Georgia and Alabama have missed the challenge for a few years as well.

The SEC teams left out are the bottom 4 teams in the odd ending seasons, and they are left out for two years. In 2016-17, the bottom 4 teams were Missouri, LSU, Mississippi St, and Auburn.

This past season, the bottom 4 teams were Vanderbilt, Georgia, Missouri, and Texas A&M. Those should be the 4 teams for the AAC alliance if the Big 12/SEC challenge selects the teams the way they have been chosen.

Tulane played the top-3 teams in the AAC once each, thus limiting the opportunity for negative impact (Houston, Cincinnati and UCF were projected as top teams this past season). As long as the AAC continues to creatively (and protectively) schedule where it's top teams only play its bottom teams once per season (instead of two), it will optimize the strength of schedules for top teams.

Regardless, this scheduling arrangement (both internal and with the SEC) creates a clear division and separation within the league between the top teams and the bottom teams.
