What has happened to this baseball team?! Don't know, but I like it!

Was a beautiful night at Gary Hogan Field. Temp 80 degrees at game time. Hopeful we can continue our scoring this week end.

Our starting pitcher tonight was also the designated hitter so when he was replaced as pitcher he stayed in as designated hitter.

Could he have come back to the mound and closed the game?

Interesting situation created by the designated hitter. However, I think once you've left the mound as a pitcher in a game there is no way a player can come back and pitch in that game.

I am not sure what the college rules are, but Whitey used to save one particular relief pitcher by sticking him in the outfield when he intended to bring him back in a batter later.

i agree the designated hitter complicates things. I do believe a pitcher who is moved to another position, could come back to the mound later in the game- in the Major Leagues anyway, not sure about college.

So, in the majors anyway, the whole trick is never leaving the game, in whatever position. Don't know why someone would be brought back to the mound if it was felt it was felt that another pitcher was needed in the first place. But an interesting twist.

Back in the days I remember Whitey had a left-handed closer and a right-handed closer. One of them was a pretty good athlete and a decent outfielder, and that gave him the option of putting him in right field for a batter or two if he was going to have to bring him back in.

Right now there is a wad at the top of the Belt. Six teams are either 8-4 or 7-5.
