Many years ago....used to use it for celebrities and others that had passed....then it morphed and became a new thing....

"BOH" was initially used when someone was fired or left where they were at, as in jobs or participation with a team.

Then some people started using it with when a person died. There was a lot if chastising for using the term with someone who had left this earth, so the term was not used in that context anymore. It was deemed disrespectful to the deceased and their families.
