People said the exact same thing when we hired Tubby. A great guy and coach who will get better players just by being in Memphis. Cronin recruits only certain types of players. He does a good job with development but to think he's going to all of sudden get better players is farcical. Arizona, USC, Washington and Oregon in his conference will always recruit better than him.

They aren't upset at all in Cincy. Weird.

And they're excited about guys like John Brannen at Northern KY.

Sadly, as we found out, that lack of tournament success can turn into no tournament if you give a coach a contract extension that loses the handle on his players and program, and then complicate it by overpaying for a coach that doesn't want to put in the effort to recruit.

Feels good to be back on the upswing, though!

Tubby was the National Coach of the year at Texas Tech before we hired him. He was also coach of the year in 2003. Tubby won a national championship as well. Not sure why you arbitrarily use 2010-11 to prove your point. Overall winning percentage of Cronin is .670, Tubby is .659. Tubby has 18 NCAA appearances overall while Cronin has 9. Tubby didn't fit here.

Cronin will have decent teams but being a decent team at UCLA gets you fired.

But if he had that level of success in Memphis we would be chomping at the bit to run him out of town too.

I think UCLA has a very high opinion of themselves thinking that just the UCLA name will bring Cronin better players.

We will see.
