Dear Bob Wickersham.
Where has Eastern been getting its butt kicked in away games the last few years?

Good point, Ken. Since 2015 (Creighton's 2nd year), EMU has only lost one out of conference game in a blowout.
In the past two seasons, we've WON our buy games on the road. Got the cash and the W. Seems like a good strategy to me.

It's unbelievable. I'm accused of not being a "real" fan by people who don't want P5 programs coming to Rynearson.
Let's play all road games.

Why is this even a topic. This news broke months ago... it’s the reality of playing division 1 football for most MAC teams... why not cash in? Funny that the same people that are against the championship building are bashing our move to cash in financially with this move.
Whatever. We have more than held our own against our power 5 schedule anyways. As a season ticket holder I’d love to see the game in Ypsilanti, but it certainly didn’t sway me away from renewing, because in the grander scheme it comes down to the MAC portion of our season regardless. If we hold our own there no matter the year, then we go bowling.

Agree and someone astutely noted that KY will not draw a big crowd like a B1G team.
If we played a middle pack B1G team maybe the paid attendance goes up 5 - 10K esp. if a few thousand come from the B1G school joining say 3 - 5K additional EMU fans.

One other thought:
If we were a top 40 or 50 type team, I'd say maybe have MSU here.
Maybe the game draws 25 - 30K. Maybe we sell a few thousand extra season tickets to get a choice seat to the game.
Maybe 5 - 10K would be MSU fans. They would be paying the full freight.

Football travels in the non-conference for the big paycheck to a athletic department starved for money. Wetherbee told me personally how glad he was that Creighton blessed his decision to sell the home game back to Kentucky. So when football travels for 3 of 4 non conference games and plays during the week in late fall, it certainly takes the shine off the argument that the team "wastes" a lot of money.
Refusing to play a home game against an SEC opponent is just another embarrassing move. We're putting in a scoreboard to improve the "game day experience." But where's the game? In Kentucky.
Why don't you right a check to make a home game with Kentucky a reality?
You have no idea.
The move is very shortsighted. Home games against P5 programs gets media coverage and an air of respectability that is almost impossible to come by. Road games make us look like sacrificial lambs or worse. Giving up the game vs MSU was especially bad. Now this.
First this news broke a long time ago so stop acting like the sky is falling all of a sudden. Second it’s a smart financial decision that helps the entire athletic department. Also if the game was at home it would probably only make the ESPN+ broadcast, at Kentucky it will be on SECN and if we keep it close or pull of an upset on their soil it helps our image far greater than doing the same at home.
Why didn’t swimming or wrestling play a body bag paycheck game? I’ll wait. Next.

Actually the "body bag" portion of those Power 5 games has been mitigated. Creighton has upgraded the athletic prowess of the roster so we no longer have high school kids trying to block superior brutes like Rashan Gary. Also we are not scheduling Power 5 teams (LSU)that are in the top ten of national recruiting. Thus the "body bag" risk of injury is less, the paycheck is only marginally lower, and oh bye the way we beat a couple of them the past two years.
Army who was scheduled by AD Gragg is another issue. We have no business putting up with their injury producing cut blocking and preparing for their option offense. I can't wait to see how U-M does when the service academy visits Ann Arbor this year and also the following year when we can truly say goodbye to the Black Knights.
I'm once again with Mr. Barna, AD Wetherbee has reacted very well to the financial crisis at the University. He saw an opportunity to put another $100K into the University coffers and he took it. Hats off to him.

"we will play anyone, anytime, anywhere. We will play in a parking lot..." Chris Creighton
If it isn't true don't say it.
Nobody wants a home game v a P5 program. Not the AD, not the head coach, not their handful of fans. Is it any wonder people don't take us seriously.

That quote is hyperbole.
It is understood to mean that we'll play any teams (including powerhouses) on the road, if need be.
It does not imply literally that we will offer Alabama 2 - 3M dollars to come to Ypsilanti to play in the Rynearson Stadium parking lot.
That would be a 'body bag' game. They would be running a shuttle every 10 minutes to St. Joes Hospital.
