Sporting News' Way-To-Early Top 25
#25 Memphis
2018-19 record and finish: 22-14, NIT
Key players: PG Tyler Harris, PG Ryan Boyce
Top-100 recruits: C James Wiseman (247Sports No. 1), PF DJ Jeffries (247Sports No. 47).
Key decisions: The Tigers still are recruiting 247Sports No. 27 prospect Trendon Watford and will need more talent to fulfill surging expectations.

Can't really much too much stock into this if they list Ryan Boyce has a key player who hasn't yet stepped on the court, but it is still amazing to see Memphis in a preseason poll.

Yeah, if Boyce is our PG, something is really wrong.

I think some of us MT.org folks should go in on writing some sports blogs. We’ve got the same level of credibility as some of these hacks.

These things are pointless. Before transfers, players declaring, recruits signing, recruits actually showing up to campus, players improving or digressing in the off season, coaching changes.

Well, it does say 'Way-To-Early', and here we are talking about it. I guess they accomplished what they wanted.

Oregon #6
UTK #8
Houston #17
Cincy #19

among teams on our schedule. I have a feeling by the time we play UT we will be ranked higher than them.

Wayyyy to early !!! We don't have a clue who we got. With late recruiting, coaching changes and transfers out the waazzouuu ... I think it's time to put these way to early stories out to pasture. Did I mention the thin NBA class !!!

So according to this...Oregon is top and we have to open at their place in a neutral game that is essentially a road game. That is tough. Hopefully it will be our coming out party. [/code]

RE: Sporting News' Way-To-Early Top 25
On one hand it's good to know we are being considered by some, on the other this board always over inflates its expectations of players and true season potential. It may take this team a few months to "gel".
Guys are right in that we don't know who we'll have, but even if we add two more great players, it's going to be an adjustment for the returning players who will have to learn their roles and reset their playing time expectations.

I'd be interested to see a list of all teams with #1 recruit. Preseason ranking. How they ended the season.

This is truly WAY too early.

Head coaching changes aren't done, the late recruiting period is still open, and the transfer portal hasn't closed.

It provides some interesting guidance but just way too early.

Yeah, no way UTK is #8 without Schofield and Bone. And if Williams goes - why wouldn't he? - they're not even top 40.

Exactly. I'm steadily looking for something to check out regarding Tiger hoops tho. I'll take it!

At least the football's "way too early" only has one or two pivotal players from top teams as early entry issues and the majority of recruiting is already wrapped up (and most frosh aren't generally expected to be top players like in CBB).

My comment was based on Decourcey's sh!tshow of a top 25.

Parrish should be commended for taking the time to hypo the teams as is best imaginable.
