It would be, just, so Tuberville, to blow a 21 point lead...

RE: OT: Senator Tuberville: I'm Serious!
The media in this town only gave cursory attention to him being sued and his partner going to federal prison..just a big OL’ misunderstanding... People steered clear of his wife’s accident that was by some accounts swept under the rug by the hometown po-po. There were plenty of articles about the weird circumstances of that accident and investigation in Texas before and after the 90 something year old man died as a result. He had a lot of unique baggage before he ever got here. It’s all fair game in election cycles.

But, you know what they DO care about? Football.

And, I can well imagine, that more than half the state is Tide fans.

Since specifically at UC and probably even at Texas Tech coaching didn't seem to be his passion anymore he has the personality (Aside from one MINOR incident at UC), I think he could easily win office depending on whether or not Sessions enters the race.

Seems like a really good guy to me outside of not doing well at UC. That has nothing to do with his party or belief in certain public issues. I've listened to a few of his interviews on radio about his senate run and I've always generally liked him.

In fact, "Get a job" would probably be a pretty good slogan in that state.

Forget about football. It’s my personal opinion that he’s a horses ass off of the gridiron, too.

Since he was in Mississippi, dude has made a living off of one thing...being likable in public and surrounding himself with competent people to do the heavy lifting. That public persona is what drew in the millions in investment dollars that got him into hot water. When he was no longer likable at Texas Tech (and after his wife was responsible for the eventual death of someone in an accident that raised more than a few eyebrows) he beat feet to suck up another 8-9 million from some other unsuspecting schlubbs.

People like confidence men....they always say how likable they were after they figure out they got duped.

That's exactly what I said - he's got the perfect skillset to do well in politics.

Update: Tubs won a plurality but not enough to avoid a runoff in the Republican primary vs former AG Jeff Sessions. Runoff is March 31.

He'll have Trump's support, that's for sure. Trump hates Sessions.

However, if he does end up winning the democrats will surely impeach him for going 6-0 against 'bama.

Not to turn this into a political discussion because this isn't the place for it but Trump gloat tweeted Sessions having to go to a run off this morning. I just updated this because of Tubs being a former coach here.

If TT beats Mr. Peppers he will crush Doug Jones in the general.

Is his platform “Get a job?”

I wonder if part of his campaign speeches is telling the crowd how he once led his team back from a 51-3 halftime deficit...

... to only lose by 38.

I'm genuinely interested in whether he remembers anything about his time here at all.

Oh, he's pissed he didn't coax Year 5 out of the university. It disrupted his retirement plan. He loved the CEO from afar coaching gig he had here. He shall forever be named the Ghost Of Coast Lane.

RE: OT: Senator Tuberville: I'm Serious!
I still vividly remember just after we hired the retired coach I saw a woman in Meijers wearing a TX Tech shirt. I jokingly said “Thanks for the FB Coach”.

She smiled and said talk to me in a year. I wondered about that until a year was over. Then I knew what she meant.

Smart lady schools smart arse.

The first year was pretty good... then we got plowed in the bowl game by UNC, and it was like hmmmm.

The second year we got Gunner Kiel and we thought yeah baby, here we go. Then the season starts and while the offense was good, the defense couldn't stop a team from the nearest nursing home.

By the time we couldn't score in the 2nd half of any game and the seniors are telling him to put Kiel in just two seasons later, there was no defense for that. Total failure.

Even though grandpa sucked as a football coach here, I think I would rather have him in the U.S. Senate than some of the bozos that plant their arrogant asses there.

Tuberville understands how to rat his way into the power structure and earn his keep. He'll kiss Trump's ring long enough to get a few terms in. If Trump loses in November he'll happily take his place as one of McConnell's stooges and block everything a President Bernie or Biden tries to implement. Morals aside, it's a game he's good at and the sport of choice for the Washington establishment.

Regardless of which side of the aisle you're on 80% of the senators are just yes people who are going to vote whichever way their leader tells them to. Most of the other 20% are trying to make a name for themselves to further their ambitions.

Given Tubs willingness to sit here and cash checks without putting in any effort I'm quite certain he'd fit into that 80% that's just going to party line vote. He's too old to think he could eventually parlay his senate seat into a cabinet role or even make a presidential run. Alabama is a safe Republican seat, the only reason it's not Republican now is the last candidate had a scandal. He's going to vote with the party and probably schmooze a lot of special interest money in the process.
