When he was hired, the move was pretty much praised by everyone involved including the national guys. We were coming off 3 coaches in what 8 or 9 years and the move to a veteran guys seemed like a valid direction. Lyle did not leave the cupboard stocked with talent, and we were very low on depth particularly up front on both sides of the ball. I think if you look at last year's squad, quite a few of TT's recruits ended up being very solid guys for us. with the exception of the one big position Qb. Gk had his issues, and Hayden at the beginning looked like the pick of the century after the big game against Memphis. I remember even Usa Today writing up how Uc stole this kid from under Bama's nose. Lol in retrospect. The thing that really sealed his fate was Gran and Clinkscale taking the Sec money at Uk and leaving Uc high and dry at both coordinators. That hurt big time on a number of fronts. That said, coaching is more than ever a young man's game, both at division 1 snf in the NFL. At Uc's new level chasing P5 football the path is clearly to try and stake it's claim to all local guys and get our share. Bohn bought into this, and hit a home run with Fickell given his pedigree. It is interesting though that Fick seems to be broadening out his net which is good to see. He's a player's coach, and i think if he can win consistently he'll get some non local guys which surprise some. Don't judge a guy for one encounter with a fan in a frustrating time. The AD has to lay the foundation for where and how the program is going to proceed. Babcock gambled and quite frankly didn't do a lot of leg work in choosing Lyle's replacement. I'm not even certain he talked to anyone else about the job. He's struggling right now with the Fuentes pick even though it was a no brainer.

Great post although Ridder was actually a CTT commit which CLF honored in his first class at UC.

I figured you'd pick up on the "stiffs feet" [Cadaverville] in the picture based on your prior sig.

According to this article, Tuberville is currently a 21 point favorite to secure the Republican nomination for the Alabama Senate seat.

Not to get political but it's unavoidable in this circumstance. I wish him bad luck in the primary but if he does survive I would want him to win the general election.

I don't know his politics, but.... his skillset seems a lot more suited to a politician than a football coach.

And that's saying something. No matter what you think of him, he did reach pretty close to the pinnacle of the coaching profession with a 13-0 season at Auburn.

If I lived in Alabama I’d move out of the state before the huckster starts running ads.

The dude mist be addicted to public salaries.

Juat wait until the opponent runs ads about all the money from Alabama citizens his partner when to jail for and OL’ Tommy got sued for in that year he was out of a job after Auburn. Should play well on the airwaves.

Let's be honest...given who ALMOST won that seat last go around, I don't think the Alabama voters care (or are able to comprehend) why that is a bad thing.

It sounds like Jeff Sessions may enter the race. Since specifically at UC and probably even at Texas Tech coaching didn't seem to be his passion anymore he has the personality (Aside from one MINOR incident at UC), I think he could easily win office depending on whether or not Sessions enters the race.

Seems like a really good guy to me outside of not doing well at UC. That has nothing to do with his party or belief in certain public issues. I've listened to a few of his interviews on radio about his senate run and I've always generally liked him.

In fact, "Get a job" would probably be a pretty good slogan in that state.

I mean the guy didn't want to work here. I think a job that simply requires you to show up and vote how your party tells you to vote is right up his alley. Gets to cash paychecks for simply showing up and they're guaranteed until the day he dies. He was born for this.

Sessions will win if he enters the race but 1. He doesn't have Trump's backing, at least as of now and 2. His run is likely seen as a safety net in case Roy Moore is polling well again. If Tuberville is the front runner...who knows?

Hey, have any former college coaches gone on to win the presidency?

Forget about football. It’s my personal opinion that he’s a horses ass off of the gridiron, too.

Since he was in Mississippi, dude has made a living off of one thing...being likable in public and surrounding himself with competent people to do the heavy lifting. That public persona is what drew in the millions in investment dollars that got him into hot water. When he was no longer likable at Texas Tech (and after his wife was responsible for the eventual death of someone in an accident that raised more than a few eyebrows) he beat feet to suck up another 8-9 million from some other unsuspecting schlubbs.

People like confidence men....they always say how likable they were after they figure out they got duped.

I meant likeable more in the sense I think he’d be enjoyable to play a round of golf with. I did not know all of those details. Never judge a book by its cover.
