There is something else in the hopper. Not sure it will work out, but it would be nice. Rest assured, Sendy and the guys are working on finding someone who will help us.

Hopefully he can take some minutes from Mitch and Williamson

Agree, KSU93. After losing the three "seniors", what is coming back from within is sub-.500.

I was looking for something but not this. KSU seems to be able to find a surprise when it is really needed. JC was really good at that and Sendy may be better. Castillo looks like a character type athlete and understands the importance of defense. I love 6'-7" athletic types, even over taller post players. The game has changed. This is all good news.

Also seems to be a Top 100 Juco player as well. ... Interesting pickup at a position of need. With 6-8 Whittington, 6-9 Pippen and 6-7 Castillo that's a pretty good MAC front line.

Now Peterson and Williamson look much better as senior veterans off the bench.

And there is still one more scholarship available... Question is how to use it.

1. Get another big 5-man; juco or freshman that could possibly redshirt.
2. Get another wing guard freshman/juco/transfer that could possibly redshirt.
3. Hold the scholarship for a mid-year transfer in December.

Lots of options.

RE: KSU Men's Basketball Recruiting Class 2019
This sounds like the perfect fit. We aren't real strong at the SF and we're not sure if we have a third big. He seems like he'll provide the versatility to help out with either role. He's got an incredibly solid stat line across the board. Big rebounder and shot blocker. Looks to be a solid scorer and shot 37.8% from three on over 3 attempts per game. I'd be surprised if he doesn't play major minutes from day one. Most of the JUCOs that haven't worked out under Sendy have been below average defenders. It's no secret Sendy loves guys that defend. So that should keep him on the court.

And it's pretty enticing to think about a lineup that has Pippen, Whittington, and Castillo out there together. A ton of length, shot blocking, defense, and rebounding without giving up three point shooting. Count me as excited.

With recruits, I always look for what awards they've won. There's a thousand high school players each year in the US that score 16 points a game, but there's only 5 in Ohio that are 1st team Divison I.

"Anyeuri Castillo Named GCAA Men’s Defensive Player of the Year" - see https://www.cgtctitans.com/sports/mbkb/2...0304lgz0xx

Hmmmm… that says he was headed to Appalachian State, so I guess we flipped him.

Have looked at his highlight tapes going back to high school ... you can see how much his body has changed over three years. Not particularly athletic, but very skilled. Has a lot of Mike Scott in his game. More of a three than a four in my mind, offensively, but saw no defensive highlights to see how good his feet really are, so may be a more of a four.

But ... if Kent plays more zone than normal, then he can definitely be a three with Whittington and Pippen. If Castillo's game is what the highlights indicate, then Pippen could be a real difference maker if he has used the redshirt year to mature.

The way Castillo passes, consistency from Pippen, even at 10 its and 8 Rebs a game, combined with Whittington and Castillo make Kent pretty strong. Also, Pippen should be able to score much easier than the other two because he is so good at the free throw line.

Makes him the go-to guy down the stretch over the other two.

The big unknown is Simon. If he has some perimeter game at all, then Kent should be a spoiler at the very least, it not a MAC contender.

Players can sign team and/or conference LOI all summer at any time (remember, ADR did not transfer to Illinois untll July last year).

RE: KSU Men's Basketball Recruiting Class 2019
Cleveland, and Trevor Huffman was granted a scholarship even later than that, I believe. I don't know why the NCAA states that May 15th is the last day of the regular signing period when it also says, "You can sign a National Letter Intent after the last signing period ends, but it is rare that there will be any roster spots left." Of course, a player doesn't even have to sign a letter of intent. It is solely for the player's protection, as it legally mandates that the school will provide a scholarship (technically an NCAA grant-in-aid) for the coming academic year. If the player doesn't sign one, the school can back out of its offer at any time up to the point where the aid actually kicks in.

RE: KSU Men's Basketball Recruiting Class 2019
Luke Howard committed to Lipscomb. Probably didn't want to be the third big in a freshman class with two established upperclassmen bigs already on the roster. And of course Castillo could see minutes at the 4 as well.

At this point I'm guessing we're looking for a transfer that would spend next year redshirting. Seems like the last two signings established depth where we lacked it.

There is a transfer possibility. And maybe he will be immediately eligible. That's all I can say right now.

Unrelated to recruiting, Randall Holt is leaving to join Geno Ford at Stony Brook.

Watched some videos on him a week or two ago. Seems like he plays a similar game to Antonio Williams. Should be a good fill when Williams is gone. He played with Ahmed Ali for two years in JUCO so you can bet our coaches were very familiar with his game.
